If you plan on fishing for Atlantic, plan on swinging with a dryline approach. Any unweighted, non-bulky summer steelhead wet fly will give you an opportunity to get a grab. There has been a nice increase in Atlantics in the river, unfortunately if they are caught below the zones, there is a good chance if them getting roped.
While the above regulations are proposed and suggested, as far as I know, some of them are not an actual regualtion(unweighted flies and sinking leaders). However, the practice is a good rule of thumb since these fish will rise on the fly, especially if they are not dodging bottom boucing flies on their way up. This I can promise you, if you head into the UFZ come summer and try to do an indie rig set-up, people will say something. Last year, early summer, rotating through the pools worked well, but most were swinging. I tried to catch an Atlantic, was not successful, only hooked a darn Skamania.
Rule number 1. Go there for the experience, an opportunity to talk with other anglers, the nice weather, etc. Don't go expecting to catch fish. Summer fishing is just that..........fishing, don't go there with the expectation of even having a grab.
