I fished for a little bit with AJ today.
And so it made sense to get a copy of his new DVD...
And I got it.
I watched the first segment on fishing High Muddy Water.
It isn't the same as the first DVD that came out a year ago, which had more to do with techniques, angles and was, for lack of a better description, technical instruction. It was a nymphing technique video, from tying flies to presentation on the water. How to position the rod and your body, etc.
This new DVD strikes me as EXTREMELY practical.
Technique is part of the equation this time around.
But this installment seems MUCH more broad in its scope than the first one.
It is practical, and for me, it is extremely important and useful regardless of the method of fishing you use.
It starts with snow on the ground and progresses through situations that you run into in all seasons.
I particularly like how AJ analyzes fish concentrations based on water conditions.
That is fascinating to me. I have always wanted to buy Ed Hewitt's books on trout behavior - I will eventually read them. I feel that AJ is knowledgable of fishing on the level reputed of Hewitt (a brilliant man who, I believe, patented a car engine!).
I would say - so far, and I'm only through about 1/10th of the DVD (it is over 4 hours, I think) - that this DVD may become a classic.
I am obviously excited about it...
I have already learned a lot IN A VERY SHORT TIME WATCHING!
Anyone else have comments on the DVD?
The salmon fly, in the pic below, that's my tie...
