Aaron Jasper's new DVD

I fished for a little bit with AJ today.

And so it made sense to get a copy of his new DVD...

And I got it.

I watched the first segment on fishing High Muddy Water.

It isn't the same as the first DVD that came out a year ago, which had more to do with techniques, angles and was, for lack of a better description, technical instruction. It was a nymphing technique video, from tying flies to presentation on the water. How to position the rod and your body, etc.

This new DVD strikes me as EXTREMELY practical.

Technique is part of the equation this time around.

But this installment seems MUCH more broad in its scope than the first one.

It is practical, and for me, it is extremely important and useful regardless of the method of fishing you use.

It starts with snow on the ground and progresses through situations that you run into in all seasons.

I particularly like how AJ analyzes fish concentrations based on water conditions.

That is fascinating to me. I have always wanted to buy Ed Hewitt's books on trout behavior - I will eventually read them. I feel that AJ is knowledgable of fishing on the level reputed of Hewitt (a brilliant man who, I believe, patented a car engine!).

I would say - so far, and I'm only through about 1/10th of the DVD (it is over 4 hours, I think) - that this DVD may become a classic.

I am obviously excited about it...

I have already learned a lot IN A VERY SHORT TIME WATCHING!

Anyone else have comments on the DVD?

The salmon fly, in the pic below, that's my tie...

I still have 4 days home from work. I've been focusing on my rod build, so I haven't thrown it in yet. Once I put my first coat of epoxy on the guides tomorrow, my time should be freed up some. Too bad he didn't sell this in Blu-Ray format!

Nice looking fly.

I'm through the first 4 chapters, and each one gets even better! It'll definitely be a DVD to watch again, and again... No wonder the first batch sold out so fast.

I am glad you guys like it so much.

I wish we had the the budget for BluRay. It costs big bucks to do BluEay. Then there are royalties involved as its Sony's product. Trust me I would love to show the true quality of the cinematography as it was all filmed in HD. A very reliable source said that since it's a technique video standard definition.

We will most likely make a video on my trip to Austria this summer and release that in a small number of BluRay only because the place is beautiful.
