Small stream, wild trout flyfisher
My passion is fly fishing small streams. But the last few weeks have been tough on my beloved small streams. The weather has been dry, bringing the levels down to low to fish. The temps of the water are OK, thanks for that.
I have the option of fishing a fine tailwater that runs nice and cool and the flows are good, The Farmington. The last few outings have been good with lots of hookups and several nice fish to hand.
The two mountains come into play by the fly selection used.
The Ausable Bomber, from The Adirondacks, and The Fluttering Caddis from The Catskills.
Both flies worked well on these Connecticut trout.
The Farmy,
A few browns taken on The Bomber, and Fluttering Caddis
The flies in size 14 were best, and on the Caddis I used a little head cement just to stiffen the hackle. The fly was beaten up badly on the swing.
