Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

wonder if it's worth it. ( farrington lake)

I am haunted by waters
according to the N.J. Fish and wild life site, they stocked Farrington with Trout.
i can't make the trip to the Musky or Gorge this month, wonder if it's worth the quick ride over there to see if the stockers will take a fly over there.

The state stocked 340 fish. Farrington is 289 acres. These trout get pretty spread out and specifically targeting them is tough . The healthy pike population enjoy them as well!

So...if you are going to hit Farrington with the fly rod, I would plan on fishing for/catching panfish, pickerel, LMB and perhaps trout as a nice surprise.

The weather was nice, a fish snapped off a fly, that was about it, a spin caster aways down from me got 3 pickerel. it was relaxing, did better on the kayak with spinning for LMB.
i live close by. hey, i was out it was a nice day, nothing wrong there.

Next time you are over at farrington I'd advise giving Ireland brook a go. I wouldn't bother with the first 100 yards, as its easy access and full of sunnies, suckers, and bass, but if you head up where it starts to get tight and the brook narrows to about 3-5 feet wide its not bad. I went a few times over this past summer (may and august) when I was back in jersey and each time was able to tangle with some 10-14 inch brookies. Just be prepared to do a lot of walking and spotting likely holding lies, much like you would on a small wild stream.

good luck to ya.

I never went too far past the pool off of Riva Ave.
is that the only access point for the brook?
i hit the musky this past Sunday, 1 brown, not much else.

there is another access point where you can reach some of the upper reaches, but you have to park at the road and walk back through a tall grass field. its about a mile before the bridge parking area if you are heading toward davidson mill pond. I find the best way to fish that branch though is to just walk the river up past the main pool, as some of the best pockets are between the two access points.

I find it hard to beleive that Irleand brook holds trout over the summer. I am impressed if it does
