Synthetic Purple Dubbing for Dry Flies?

khuhner

Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
I'm trying some dry flies and would like to use a synthetic dry fly dubbiing but cant find anything synthetic that doesnt have antron, etc. The purple rabbit and angora dubbing is OK, but just doesnt tie as well as the synthetics (e.g. Superfine, etc).

For natural hair, Beaver ties well and can be found in deep maroon.
you can try dying some white superfine. KIS by using RIT. Wont last as long as an acid dye but easy and quick.

Someone else told me that the flies from the Madison River Fly Co, were tied with Flex Floss. So I tried that and it seems to be perfect!

Here is their fly:

If you can't find a color dubbing that you need i recommend, heading to an art store or any store you can find permenat color markers, it does very well, this was a tip given to me long ago, and i went out and bought a permanet color marker set and it fixed most of my problems......vince

I did that once when I was following a recipe for a hydrosyche caddis. Using a white floss underbody, I was using various colored markers to get the body color of my liking. However, after weaving in ostrich herl with clear larva lace over the "dyed" floss, the recipe also called adding tiny markings (dots, lines) on the lace using to marker to better imitate the natural. I found that this wasn't such a good idea because even weeks after I let the flies dry, they were still sticky to the touch.
