PUBLIC REVIEW OF DRAFT SUSQUEHANNA RIVER ANADROMOUS FISH RESTORATION COOPERATIVE (SRAFRC)
MIGRATORY FISH MANAGEMENT AND RESTORATION PLAN FOR THE SUSQUEHANNA RIVER BASIN

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) today announced that the Draft Migratory Fish Management and Restoration Plan for the Susquehanna River Basin is now available for public review and comment. USFWS chairs the Susquehanna River Anadromous Fish Restoration Cooperative (SRAFRC), which is an interagency organization dedicated to the management and restoration of American shad, river herring, hickory shad, gizzard shad, American eel, striped bass, and other migratory fish in the Susquehanna River Basin.

SRAFRC operates under a charter signed by the USFWS, National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC), New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), and Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR). The SRAFRC coordinator chairs the SRAFRC Technical Committee, serves as secretary to the Policy Committee, provides oversight for program activities and contractor performance, develops annual work plans, manages data, and reports results.

Migratory fish restoration in the Susquehanna River Basin has been a cooperative effort from the start, with the resource agencies working together with hydropower companies and others to establish fish passage, fish culture and stocking programs, and other activities to more effectively manage migratory fish resources.

The Draft Migratory Fish Management and Restoration Plan for the Susquehanna River Basin will be used by SRAFRC and others in managing and restoring migratory fish resources in the Susquehanna River Basin. Comments on the draft plan should be submitted to Mr. Miller by e-mail or U.S. Mail within 30 days of this announcement. The full draft plan is available on the USFWS web site at: Susquehanna River Coordinator
