Shopping again... Any thoughts on polorized sunglasses, glass vs polycarbonate, shade, form fit, function etc.... Whats good whats not... Using to trout fish streams like the Beaverkill late morning till dark conditions. Thanks for your input

My vote goes for Maui Jim's. I have the MJ Sport model, actually two pairs one in gray the other amber tint. Both are true color lenses, polarized, glass, and the coatings are inside the glass, not just on the surface, so they don't wear or scratch off.

clip ons, with side sheilds if you can find them, i bought the last 2 from action optics but they said thats it...fishermen eyewear work also .....for 12.99 get a couple pair.......i've worn 300.00 sunglasses and my cheap ones work as good..

I second the vote for MJs. I recently got a pair of Kanahas for fishing and only for fishing. They are super lightweight and so comfortable, you don't even know that they are on, except of course for the superb vision. I really like the wrap-around lens action on this model. Its not an extreme wraparound, but just enough to cover the corners. The hard case has a clip that I attach to my chest pack.

After a day of fishing it's so hard to go back to my cheap Panama Jacks (my everyday shades). Its like going from a Mercedes CL class to a Dodge Neon. Reason I need the Neons is that they last barely a month on average. Speaking of which, its time to go to CVS and stock up.

Definitely give the Kanaha a try if your budget allows. Good luck.

Any suggestions for someone that wears glasses?

My action optics are perscription. Worth every cent.

With that being said, I have never used the Maui Jims. I would love to hear from anyone on the board that has used both Action Optics and Maui jims, who may have a preference of one over the other.

Thanks & Update

Shopped and looked at many favoring AO's. Liked MJ's, but for a person of my level of taste.. I didn't see much delta between the two. Still hung up on polycarbonate vs glass and whats the word photochromatic or not. Liked the Bruneau - Copper a lot. Also liked the Padre - Copper/Amberish which has a 2.25 correction bifocal built in. Liked copper more for contrast. Liked the 2.25 correction also... didn't get to look through glass... the AO Crystal Series. MJ's are nice but up the priceline. I still have to research the links provided but I'm getting kindda Copper AO'ish. Hey thank you all... I'm listening/Thinking....... Rich

I like the photochromatic lenses because once dark sets in and I take my polarized glasses off (from wearing all day) I feel blind. The photochromic lenses turn lighter shades when the sun goes down and darkens up when it's high noon. At least thats what I think it is supposed to do  . I would imagine that this would be an impossible thing to gauge indoors when trying on a few pairs.

Photochromic lenses

Check out the AO site - quite a bit of info in there - click and read up.
Lens material is explained in some detail.
Glass is heavier, thicker but better optically.

Action Optics

The Visible Light Transmission ( VLT ) varies between about 13% ( dark ) and 23% ( lighter )
on most of the photochromics.

If I usually fished very early or very late, I'd get the amber tint.
Since my starting times vary considerably, I got the copper for it's all around versatility. I may get an amber phtochromic as well next year.

I don't know about what level ( if any ) UV protection they may offer. I assume some.

I have their prescription bifocals in glass copper photochromic with wire aviator frames.
Best sunglasses that I have ever owned.

Yeah, they're pricy.

What are your eyes worth to you, hmmmmmmmm ?
