Sunglass Lens Colors

NJpatbee

Can be found on NJ/NY/PA waters!
I have habitually used grey colored polarized lenses for fly-fishing, but as my eyes continue to age I am having difficulty seeing into the water them. I recently took a header on a WTS and fortunately my glasses were the only casualty, so I am in the market.

Any suggestions on lens color for "seasoned" eyes?

I just bought a pair of Smith Action Optics this summer. I got the Shelter model with brown photochromic lenses. I think they are much better than grey in my opinion.

I am currently using the Smith Factor D Max..They have 4 sets of interchangeable Polarized Lens (Grey, Copper, Amber & Clear)...I use the different lens according to the conditions..The amber is excellent at last light...Copper for every day, and Grey for sun...I still dont know what the clear is for....This is my first season with these glasses and I am completely satisfied at this time...

Prior to buying the Smiths, I had a pair of H3O Tsunamis that I purchased at the Fly Fishing Show..It had 3 sets of interchangeable Lens...I liked them but I got in the way of a clients backcast and they are somewhere in the South Branch..

IThe amber is excellent at last light...

I second this. Amber is very easy on the eyes too. It's the color of choice for long haul truck drivers because it limits eye fatigue and is very good at low light because it sharpens contrast.

I like smoke or copper for sunny days....at the beach.

I would guess the clear is for rainy, cloudy days. At least that's what I'd use them for. I'll have to check into them as I've often wondered if anyone made clear lenses with polarization. I always have to remove my sunglasses to tie on a fly because I need all the light I can get.

Well, it was a good thing you had them on. Better to have your glasses go floating down the river than an eyeball.

Hi,

I have a pair of action optics that I have had for at least ten years.

They have very light amber lenses and I can use them right into dark.

On the absolute brughtest days I have used a dark pair, but usually just go with my light ambers.

One other consideration is the lens shape. My light ambers a re a standard lens and frame shape and are not quite as effective at cutting out the glar from the sides and top. A wrap around type that fits closer to the face works better for that.

Jim

Thanks for the recommendations. I will be in the market for amber or interchangeable lenses that include amber.
