The striper fishing is about to get good for us fly rodders. The cinder worms should show anyday giving us the best opportunity to catch this amazing fish on the fly. The bill pur fat governor signed will do nothing to protect this great fish. In the meantime shrimp have been producing fish in the dark.imagejpeg_0_8_1.jpgimagejpeg_0_9_1.jpg

9 ft. 8- 10 wt floating or intermediate line. I prefer intermediates. Leaders are simple 6 ft of 30 lb then 3 or 4 ft of 20 lb. When you hook one of these guys you will become addicted. Even the small ones are like bulldogs.

Good info...

Also new to fly fishing for stripers...

Do you use cinder worms surf fishing? from boats? salt flats?

I've only fished from the surf (with a salt fly) during a striper blitz at IBSP last fall.

Any advice on where to use the cinder worm flies would be appreciated.

You have to know where they hatch. Rivers ,bays and other back water areas. Not in the ocean. You'll only get 3 or 4 hatches a year and they usually go for 3-4 days each hatch. The moons in may and June bring them on. Have only seen a few the last couple of nights and new moon was the 17 th so it should happen, but the water has been cold. I don't fish out of boats all of of land or wading.
