Here is a super productive pattern for the Salmon River the Rusty Rat. This simple yet deadly pattern was first introduced in 1911 the tyer whom created it is Roy Angus Thompson thus it's name R.A.T. ..

The recipe for this one is as follows;

Hook AJ 2051 size 5
Thread red 8/0
Tag gold small oval
Tail a small bunch of peacock sword fibers
Body rear orange floss or silk
Underwing orange floss
Thorax peacock herl
Rib gold small oval tinsel
Wing on this one I used silver monkey pattern calls for squirrel or fox
Hackle collar grizzly hen
Head red

Tie this one on and swing it across and down , be sure to hang on tight as the fish tend to slam this fly. This pattern works great for cohos and steelhead..

Now that is a beauty. Very nice tie Allen. This pattern is very effective as you said, but not just for chrome and salmon, I twist these up in smaller sizes and the browns hammers them as well on the local streams.
