Orvis Sonic Weld Technology

Redington is using it on their waders, and its licensed to Orvis. so if it is working for Redington It should work for Orvis. Unless they decide to stick to the same Chinese company that made the rest of their waders.

Thanks WB, I've been wearing Simms forever, but needing a new pair and searching the web, I saw the new Orvis line is coming out in September. I have never been confident in Orvis waders, but these look tempting.

Keep away until you hear the reviews. I love SIMMS products but prefer wet wading even on the 44 degree WB. I like feeling my balls shrivel up when I get up to my knees.

Why would you ditch Simms to go with Orvis? That would be like skipping a fishing trip with Dec Hogan to hang out with beetle.

Get the G3's or G4's and you'll thank me later.

CTobias,
I have two pairs of Redinton Sonic Pro Zips,I debated heavily when i replaced my first pair of Redington BarrieflexI had for along time,BTW i still have those an they get used for smallmouth or places with alot of thorns. I have a few great products that are made by Simms.. a WindStopper Guide Jacket Polar Fleece,A couple pairs of Polarfleece mitts w/Windstopper fingerless an flip backs.A Glenbrook shirt that is kick ass IMHO,and also a pair of #14 Riversheds with a pack of starcleats in them . I love these boots an i dont have problems with slippery rocks here on the Limestoners or on a river or freestoner.
As for 400 dollars or more for a pair of waders...Aint happening. For what i have heard regarding the neoprene booties on their breathables wearing thin and the amount you pay for Simms waders..aint no way ill buy a pair yet, but if ido it will definitely be G4 zips.
I'll put my Redingtons against Simms for great quality.
As for Orvis..best three products they make IMHO are the CFO reel click n pawl or disc drag,Battenkill Barstock, and Super Strong tippet.Aside from that Their clothing is made for Hobbits.

The difference is my waders were made by Americans in Bozeman and not Chinese communist slave labor.

The G series is the way to go. Why else would guides around the world rely on them if they weren't the best.

There is a BIG difference with Gore-tex waders and coated waders. I own the G3 guide and a pair of LL bean waist high. The Bean waders are hotter and hold in the moisture and heat. I think the welded seams are a grate idea and will buy them when Simms uses them on their waders.

We were talking about redington and Simms not ll bean waders. Redington sonic pro waders breathe fine and are a better price point. Simms makes great but expensive waders.

Mac,
thanks for the input. I do feel Simms makes some great products like i earlier stated,But for 400 clams an up......thats a lot just like flyrod companies are goin the 1000 dollar rod mark. It's ridiculous an obscene. As for beathabilty, Redington makes a great wader, i am glad i bought another two pairs,Last year i bought the first pair of Sonic Pros , and this year i bought another pair. They are even better made than my first pair of Redington's and they still get used too.

My point is that Redington or Orvis do not use gore tex but put a coating on the fabric for waterproofing like LL Bean. But why am i wasting my time trying to educate a guy that just bought a berkely ugly stick fly rod

Hey dummy there are other breathable technologies besides gore tex and its an eagle claw fly rod not Berkeley ugly stick you dingbat

By the way, two pair of sonic pros at $280 a pair come to $560. And you cant say they breathe just like Simms when you never wore them for a day of fishing and cant compare them to a gore tex wader.

Have both Simms and Sonic Pro zip fronts have to say the Sonic pros are the shit ! Take a beating and still keep me dry, my Simms are leaking around the ankle in the weak point where the boot meets the leg. We'll see what 2 years straight of fishing every day does to the Redingtons so far so good.

Eagle claw, Zebco, whatever they are all the same. And yes you are correct that there are imitators out there. Sort of like there are a lot of other graphite rod companies out there making rods just like Sage, Loomis, Winston because they use graphite also.

Gore-Tex is expensive stuff hence the price..I bought Orvis waders not knowing they are made in China..that so far is the only negative thing I can say about them..I fish at least two days a week and no problems yet..although I have been wet wading all summer long..I also hear Simms are the best products on the market, but I just can't get past the price tag....:)

How long did you own the Simms? And you can send them in for repair? Also, dont be Mac's enabler. He needs help and he needs it fast

The Simms leaked after two years and I have sent them in and have been repair at no cost . My Sonic pros carry the same guaranty and do cost about 1/3 less than Simms and from comparison they are as good as any Simms product out there.I might add that I have worn them in the heat and as far as moisture transfer they work very well. This is how I see it as I get out fishing nearly every fishable day of the year and wear my waders a lot..

At the current rate and with the economy in the shape it is an with kids that dont use the outdoors like they should, its no wonder that flyshops are going under.Friggin flyfishing Industry has gotten as greedy as corporations an politicians. I agree with raising prices for things over a period of time...but look around you how much stuff has gone up.Fleecing the Anglers.

But then again with a drift boat loaded with a T&T and Sage loaded with wulff triangle tapers and all the flies you could want , why would you need waders anyway..:)

Liar! You did not wear waders the day i was with you. I was the only one manly enough to do so.

Im not saying other companies dont make good waders my Bean waders are fine. But they are hotter and its noticeable. That is the only draw back. But if i sweat it does not make for good pictures and as you know, to look good is to fish good

What Simms do you have?

Sorry WB no need for waders when you are on the ship and the water is close to 60 degrees. But when I am wade fishing which is more often than not I put on the waders as I don't like ticks ,bees, snakes or briers all of which my Sonic pros have fended off perfectly .. Not to mention a bear attack or two..:)

The $400 dollar guide waist highs Chris I had them repaired last year handed them right to the show rep. at the Fly Fishing show in Somerset had them back in a few weeks.

Simms are GHEY! Only homos wear them!! :give-the-finger:

BTW... why is this thread in the Fly Tying forum??

They are still GHEY!!

You've gotta understand... WB has the equivalent to a drift boat what Fred Flintstone has to a car. WB's feet are typically dangling in the water and doesn't have the comfort of placing his feet up and relaxing therefore, waders are a necessity for him.

I have the simms g4's, simms g3 guide pants and Redington sonic zip front. All waders are in size large long. The Redingtons perform just as good as the Simms. The Simms fit better, especially the booties. In terms of overall long term durability, i don't see anything holding up to the g4s, but you can go through 2 pairs of Redington waders for the same price.

Oh, in terms of Orvis waders, they will suck. I would buy a pair of Hodgeman first.

Sounds like a sizing problem if you had the boot pull away from the gore tex. they aren't supposed to fit like spandex you know.

Just ask yourself this question. Why do the majority of guides wear Simms waders? The answer is simple, because they are the best on the market.

Of course your reddington waders are WAY cheaper. They are made by communist slave labor. Probably made by some small child in a sweat shop who has never even seen a trout stream.
