Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

NY 2003 Fish Stocking targets

I happened to find this page, and thought it may interest a few of you. It shows how many fish were stocked this year by location. Just click on Delaware or Sullivan county. It also has a link to the page of proposed stockings for next year. More interesting than a helpful tool, but it shows the extent of the stockings in some of our favorite places. Well, here it is:

Pretty interesting. As you may know i'm totally against stocking, but i have helped do it many times because i figure if they're gonna do it, i might as well know where they put em' in so i can help some of my clients have a decent day on the river. That may seem somewhat hipocritacle, but hey i can also easedrop and find out what people are thinking. Sneaky perhaps, but the best defense is a good offense. And you got your vicesa, and you got your versa. A lot of wars have been won sneaking someone behind enemy lines, battles anyway. Since i live on the Willowemoc i thought i'd check and see just how many fish they put it. It was more than i thought, actually over 11K. That can't be good for the native brookies, or even the resident wild brown trout. Like Peter Paul and Mary said, "when will they ever learn?" Business as usuall i guess. What a shame. And all just so Joe Blow and his 6 rug rats, (or fishing buddies, same thing, a treble hook is a treble hook), from Jersey can come to town and spend money. Until no-kill areas are made fly fishing only areas, we will continue to loose our wild fish populations and degrade the quality of our fisheries. Case closed. m.j.romero (willowhead)

I suppose you can draw from my last post on this thread that i am not a huge fan of the DEC. It is true that they are often part of the problem and not part of the solution. I employ all of you who believe in wild trout to contact the DEC and find out when they will be having "town meetings" like the ones they occasionaly have in Roscoe and get to that meeting and voice your opinions. If we all don't get off our duffs, nothing will get accomplished. Dig?

And don't EVER let anyone tell you that what worked in Montana won't work here. Hell, we'll never know if we don't try. For all who haven't been, just go there once and fish, then come back here an pitch a bitch. And make it a VERY loud one. Wild fish are where it's at folks. I know i may be preaching to the choir but hey, we need to make our feelings known. The DEC is a business and they do not want to shut down their hatcheries. Well hell, the least they could do is cool it with the browns and go to brookies. I know, i know, browns do better in the warmer water temps of summer. So what, if you just gonna stock more next spring. Thank you. At least they would be somewhat more in line with the native fish. That is not the best of all possibilities but IMHO it would beat what we have now. Let me hear what you think.
