Newbie fishing in Allegany County,

I'm new to fly fishing, and will be going up to Allegany County (where I grew up.) to spend a few days fishing w/ an old friend. I'm not sure what flies to use or what may be hatching up there at this time. I will be the only one fly fishing. Any help or info would be appreciated, and info on where to get flies up there. My friend couldn't think of anyplace up there that sells them except for maybe K-Mart.

Hi Joe,
Sorry to disappoint you. There aren't many fly shops around here in Allegany County. There is a sporting goods store in Olean, NY that sells flies. The fishing isn't bad, though, although it's been kind of cold and very wet. Fishing last weekend was totally out as most of the rivers and streams were blown out.

Thanks Mark. Actually, I was born and raised in Wellsville. I can't wait for two hots, fries w/ gravey, and a big Beef on Weck at the Beef House.

wiskoy is in that area i know. but you need to be really good to get fish being as they're all wild

Oh Yes, the "Hot" is still going strong. The Shop in Olean has some equipment as well, but it's not like a well stocked fly shop. I've often contemplated opening a place. Don't know how well it'd do.

Can you make any suggestions for flies I should bring up with me. We have several places I can buy down here. Thanks for any info.
