New to the Board.....and might be moving to Jersey

Hello all! My name is Isaac and I might be moving from Washington to New Jersey. I am a little nervous about moving so far away since I have lived in Washington pretty much all my life (except for college).

I fish lakes and love them soo much. How is lake fishing in New Jersey? I'm not sure exactly where I will be moving to but wanted to get a feel how the fly fishing was. Is there more lakes versus streams and rivers? For example, Washington has tons of lakes while Oregon has more steams and rivers versus lakes.

Any books out there for Jersey fly fishing?

Thank you so much for this web site. It will be gret to hook up and meet some of you all. Thank you again.

Although New Jersey has a few lakes that hold trout, fly fishing in them is a cool/cold weather activity. They go "deep" when the surface water warms.

Most fly fishing for NJ trout is basically a stream activity.

For that I suggest Fly Fishing New Jersey Trout Streams by Matthew Grobert (a member of this forum). The paperback edition lists for $19.95. It's found in many local tackle shops. I got mine at the Ramsey Outdoor Store.

If you're a Bass fisherman, just about any lake or pond, that's deep enough to not freeze solid in the winter, will provide year round fly fishing.

Depending on where you move to in NJ you can have decent access to stream fishing. Lake fishing is a bit of a challenge. Keep in mind that you are close to PA and NY which have a lot of great flyfishing as well. Be curious to know where in Washingon you are from and some of the lakes you fished there.

Isaac,

Your best bet would be to find out where you will be moving to and get back to us. While books are great nothing beats a reply that starts "I was out there yesterday and..."

Also many people on this site are helpful with what to use and some will take you out with them (although some of those might demand you wear a blindfold)

Get matt groberts fly fishing new jersey book it's good book with river listings, access points, water type, hatches, and gear needed.

Hello all. I will be working in Camden, New Jersey. I dont know where I will be living becasue I dont know the area well enough.

Is that a good area to live? Sorta like to live out in the urban area.
