Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Welcome Alaska,

Are your streams in western NC mostly small wild trout streams in the higher elevations? Are there any tailwaters in NC?

May be paaing through that area this summer and I'm curious as to my options.

Wild trout

I fish delayed harvest mostly in spring and fall. After June 1 I switch to wild streams. There are quite a few but take a good walk into. I have never fished a tailwater. The ones my friends fish are the Watauga and Holsten in TN. I plan to float the Watauga in May and will let you know how it goes. How much do you fish a year. Bill

James,
If you can pick out a few counties you may be passing through in W. NC, I have a list of about 25 or so wild mountain trout streams and a list of about 50 hatchery supported streams. All in the high mountains of NC. I have them listed by county. Let me know, Ill post them.

A note: most NC trout waters are "creeks"

Great Smokey Mountains National Park has good trout fishing : 615-436-1200
Cherokee Indian Reservation (heavily stocked waters) Fish and Game Commission: 704-497-5201
Blue Ridge Parkway streams: 704-271-4760

NC State Parks:
South Mountain State Park: 704-433-4772
Stone Mountain State Park: 919-957-8185
