Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Hey guys Im fishing here in mass and Ive noticed that there isn't much hatching. I mean I haven't seen much for a caddis hatch and I didn't see any march browns, two insects that should of shown up in may according to my hatch book. We also have very high water this year and lots of warm weather, I never expected it to be this bad. The one thing I have seen hatching here are the Mahogany Duns and I thought it was a little early for them. Just wanted to know if you guys are experiencing something similar.

You may want to ask simms that question, that sounds like his area, but many streams in that area will not have ANY large hatch to speak of and many are undernourished, especially compared to streams with predictable a prolific hatches like the D.

I think I may have identified the problem...
Have you SHOWN the NYMPHS this "hatch book"? I thought not.

Open it to the appropriate page and turn it toward the water in question.
Better yet, read the charts out loud while wading(loud enough so the nymphs can hear you under all that water(adjust your volume based on the depth of the water you are wading in).)

Bugs'll be poppin' in no time.

Why has nobody given you this tip up until now? Fly fishing 101 as far as I'm concerned(or 091)

Drawbridge,
give the march browns a few day. With all the high water it has not really warmed all that much up here. do you have a stream thermometer? if not get one water temp is the best indicator of a hatch. Besides if the Paraleps (mahogany duns) have just come off the march browns and pale evening duns (E. Vitreus) are not far behind. keep at it , what hatch guide do you have?

Steve
