Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

If it will take a fly, I'll throw one to it!
Gentlemen (and AK :))--

Help! I've tried nymphing, stripping and swinging streamers, and all I seem to catch are dinks. What am I doing wrong? Where's davethetrout?

I'm realizing that this stretch of river may require a boat. hahaha. But any advice on how, where, when to get the smallies, especially now in fall would be appreciated.

Thanks.

clouser's and other streamers, find a new spot, walk out into the water, get a boat, fish as mush water you can, smallies move around alot so fishing one spot can be productive but it needs to be a good spot. this is the area I fish on the D. The season is ending and with this weather its going to turn off soon if not already.

HUGE Streamers. 4-6 inches. Make sure that they are yellow orange or chartreuse. On the Housatonic big streamers are better in the fall as opposed to spring and summer.

Like Smittin, this is the area I fish as well, and I agree the season seems to be wrapping up at this point. But thinking ahead to next year, a kayak will help you out a great deal in getting from good spot to good spot, as well as landing on the islands that are out there. If you're on your own, you can even yak your way down from 1 launch to the next downstream, fishing all the while, then drag it over and return to your car via the canal where the current is very manageable.

This time of year a crease fly or small herring/shad pattern should work. That's my home water for over 30 years. The fish are still keyed in on the shad coming down river. good time of year to catch a Lg. tiger trout..
