Rods loomis nrx vs sage one

I personally think the sage one 9ft 5wt is the best dry fly rod one can own. I bought one for my dad as a xmas gift 4-5 years ago and started getting jealous of how nice it was when I borrowed it that I ended up getting my own. Its a cannon that is extremely accurate both at distance and closer in casting distances. It is also very light in the hand which I like in a dry fly rod. Oddly, not all sage one rods are the same way- some feel heavier than others depending on the length and weight relative to other rods in their class. i have a 10ft 4wt sage one that feels like a 6wt in the hand and is very heavy. Bottom line is if you string up a 9ft 5wt sage one with a wulff triangle taper you are going to be pleased.
The NRX is a bit slower and you feel that when casting it. I think its a nice rod, but I don't like it as much as the NRX for dry fly fishing on larger rivers like the delaware. I do like the heavier NRX rods for salt water fishing in the 8-9wt sizes.

Anyway, I've not yet tried a Sage One, I've only briefly thrown a 5wt NRX and agree it seems soft at first... Must... now... resist... the urge to try out the One... damn you, FlyI4! damn you!!!

It's funny how personal opinions go. My experience with both rods are exactly the opposite of John's. I have both rods, having taken both out to Montana and using them on the Delaware. I fished my Sage One all spring and picked up the NRX prior to going out west in July. I was consistently overshooting my target with the NRX by a long shot, it had much more power than the Sage One. So much difference that my go to rods are now the NRX and the Orvis H2. I also have a brand new Sage one that I'm selling cheap, never used, but you can't have my other rods.

I bought an NRX after my re-employment last spring. Tested it against the One, T&T, Winston. The NRX is deceptively soft. Once you load it though, its ass-section has some serious backbone to fire it out there. Best rod I've thrown, but the finish on the T&T was nicer. I wish they still made it in black and blue, just to be different than the rest of you twats who insist that every fly rod has to be some shade of green.

Fuck all of those whoosey rods your using now, nothing beats the Loomis Classic 9' 5 wt GLX and you know it.Will have a shootout come April.

For the record this isn't a debate Jeff and I are friends and have been fishing together for 20 years.
Joe, You know that old GLX has lost it's balls. It's like a noodle rod now from all of your 30' power casts.
The NRX is scary long and is relatively accurate, of course in your hands, welll, the fish would be safe.

I still use my Loomis GLX 9 5wt. Still one of my favorites and I think I picked it up for 225.00.
