Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Hendricksons and blue quills on the SBR

that brookie has great colors. Almost looks wild- but looks too big for me to believe it.

I was thinking the same thing. With a gun to my head, I'd have to go with holdover. But it has real fins, so can't know for 100% certain. Either way, it fought like a big fish and was eating spinners in typical brookie water.

Anyone care to give a quick tutorial on the best ways to identify stocked vs hold over vs wild??

I'm running out, so no time to dig up pix, but the fins are the primary give away. Look for full, beautiful fins on all three species with white leading edges. A little different for the front fins on wild browns, but on those you also look for a bright red adipose fin. You also need to know what wild fish spawn in which rivers. For example, no rainbows spawn in the Musky, so 100% of any bows caught there are stocked no matter how long they've been in the river and how good their fins might look when you catch one.

If you look at my initial post, that first brown is wild and the second giant one was not. Take a look at the right pectoral fin on the big boy and you can clearly see that it is not very large and it is somewhat deformed after growing back. Conversely, the smaller one has beautiful fins and a bright red adipose fin which I took a closeup shot of.

Size is another indicator. And trout under let's say 10" with nice fins is pretty much a slam dunk wild fish. Others can add to this as I have a field tour today of some dam removals.....good fishing everyone. It's game on!

Saw the first spinner fall on the middle SBR this evening. Fish were finicky which I found odd given how early in the season it still is, but I managed a few including a solid brookie.

This bow would only eat an egg-laying rusty spinner after multiple drifts over him with a normal rusty spinner. Go figure.

Nice fish and nice pictures. That would be an impressive wild Brookie, still a nice multi-season holdover. I am assuming the middle SBR means shannon's private water again?

Apparently I misread that...I thought he was in the KLG. Although I'd have no idea if there were crowds or not on private water..I'm merely a peasant :crap:

That's okay. History has a time-honored tradition of peasant revolts.

So, should we all met up on the private water on Sunday and have a peasant "fish-in".......I think we need a permit to protest....:protesta:

We should make a southern assault...start at the Vernoy bridge and wade upstream until we hit the Old river stix bar.....by that time we should have either caught or scared every fish in the club!!!! we will replace them with furunculosis riddled Pequest mutants....That should teach these feudalistic fishing pigs a lesson!!!!!!:)

Jim, of course I am joking, though I can't speak for the others...

Right! All we have to do is scare the fish out of club waters, and since the signs only say, NO FISHING we should be FINE! Right? That's how that works?

How much is a ticket for trespassing these days? I'm out of practice.

Bad Idea .I have access to that club. My fathers longest friend is a member and I can go fishing there anytime I want. I don't that fish there that much, but I get there a couple of times a year. So stay the F off of those fish.:)

Aww, I'm not serious! I'd never do that - it would really upset the fish, and that's just plain mean!!:rolleyes:
