fly shack flies

flyI4

Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
I've always seen fly shack at the shows and on fishing websites ,but finally this summer I decided to give them a try....I really don't like tying flies and have found that while tying is worth it to me as a very big advantage on tough summer trout, it doesn't matter how great your patterns are on early season trout that will take generic patterns with no problem so long as there presented properly. Looking at fly shack's site, I needed to get some larger hoppers, ants, ect for my upcoming trip and also wanted to stack up on some nymphs that I hate tying (caddis pupa, prince nymphs, large double wingcase stone flies). I just got my package in the mail and was really impressed at what these flies turned out like considering they are only 80c a fly. They look great, are on decent hooks, and don't have threads hanging off them like I half expected after purchasing them. While the thread on them might break after a fish or two, most fly shops have the same thing happen to there flies since they're buying these things from wholesale outlets as well. While I do think some flies need to be tied on your own for stream specific detail, I would recommend this site for your buggers, nymphs, general adams/caddis/terrestrial patterns if you don't enjoy tying that much or maybe just don't have the time to tie the amount of flies you need on stream. With flies going at $2 at most locations, flyshack's flies are worth a try.

A friend of mine swears by fly shack flies. I've seen them first hand catch fish and I never heard him complain about them falling apart quickly. I've seen the flies and they are nothing special but they do catch fish. Plus I believe they are pretty cheap.

That sounds about right, maybe beetle ties for them...

that site is legit Chris, have you tried their egg patterns to know whether they tie those egg patterns on with strong enough hooks for steelhead?

JC,

Give me a few minutes and Ill snap a pic for ya. Just a got my flystop order in. My observation is...MAYBE. After a few hard running chromers, youll def be taking the plyers to the bend...How long youll be able to manipulate is up in the air.

Why are you asking Simms? you know he only fishes BEADS!!! haha

I went the same route last year. I like having my own flies in most cases but don't have much time to tie. And if its just generic shit like buggers and PT's, I don't mind buying some to refill the boxes...
Most of what I tie, I can't find for sale...like a Patriot Double Wing, they don't even sell those on Lafontaine's site. I tie my dries because they last a while. I tie all my salt shit b/c it can last a long while if tied well...just resharpen the hook and you're good to...salt flies can be expensive as well, like $4-5 for a clouser which takes about the same time as a PT!

I bought some stuff form flydeal.com and they were ok for the price. My last order got lost though...they don't track shipments I guess, which seems retarded. They claimed that I put the wrong shipping address which I didn't understand since it should be the same as my credit card, which wouldn't go through if incorrect. They offered to cover half the cost to have the flies re-tied/re-sent. I went to house that it was addressed to but couldn't really communicate with the really old lady that didn't speak english...I forgot about this until now...I guess I should do something about it...if not I'll end up sending a hate rating on Google when I'm sauced up one night

I have always liked the flyshack as a business, they are great people, and not located far from me. Secondly, I have been pleased with their flies, their dry flies hold together well and have good proportions. I've had a couple beadhead nymphs come unraveled, but that's after a few fish, so it's to be expected at times.

JC,

For fall chromers, I would NOT purchase these...For sure, after 1 or 2 fish the hooks would be severely comprimised. However, winter and spring chrome would not be an issue...

In this case, spend the time and tie up your own glo bugs on heavy gauge hooks. Rmaseys DID have heavy dudty glo bugs tied up, however I am unsure of their stock...they also charge out the ass...

I think their decent and cheap, but I still prefer the $9.95 flies I'm tying. Hahahaha.
