Federal grant to fund restoration project near confluence of Musconetcong, Delaware rivers

The Musconetcong Watershed Association has been awarded a $50,000 federal grant to fund a river restoration project near the confluence of the Musconetcong and Delaware rivers.
The funding will be used to remove the remnants of the Riegelsville dam and subsequent stabilization of river bank and bed to improve water quality and aquatic habitat for trout and other migratory species, according to the Musconetcong Watershed Association.
The U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey and U.S. Coast Guard representatives announced May 10 that more than $1.9 million in funding is being made available to 20 projects that will protect and restore health and living resources of the New Jersey’s waterways. The Conservation Grant Awards Funding resulted from three community service payments ordered as part of sentences imposed on shipping companies for criminal violations related to attempts to conceal deliberate vessel pollution.

OK MY Bad:looser:

the best i could hope for is that they had steered funding from the methadone and clean needle programs, and then sent the fine money back to improving whichever monitoring force was able to bring the conviction...but i'll take it.
:)

This is to improve fish passage and, more importantly, fish habitat below the Finesville dam as we work to remove that first dam. We will be restoring the river at 3 locations below Finesville where one rock dam and two wooden coffer (remnant) dams are still causing problems in the lower river between Finesville and the mouth of the Delaware. As we remove Finesville, we will restore the 1/2 mile of river upstream of that dam as well for proper fish passage and habitat. On top of native brook trout passage, we hope to achieve passage and habitat for anadromous fish and brown trout coming in from the D as well.
