Deerfield MOUSIN'

Hey Boys,

The summer releases enacted by trout unlimited has been a god send for the Deerfield the last few years. During the day, EVERYDAY, the water shoots up to 850cfs for 6 hours, then goes back down to a perfect wading level of 135cfs. However, when the water goes back down, this makes navigating the river at night easy and safe and allows certain spots that were able to access by boat in high water, accessible by foot at night.

This also means a perfect time to MOUSE!

So another guide and I headed out last night with our 7 weights, huge mice, a bottle of JD and NO camera :(

The moon wasn't as bright as we would have liked but we managed (2) fish over 24'' and a bunch from 16''-20''.

Nothing like casting out into a black abyss, hearing a CRASH and your drag sizzling.

With the temps on top of the mountains up there(Berkshires) getting down into the 40's at night now, by mid Sept the mousin game will be over and the browns will be CRUSHING streamers.

Taking the balloon boat out tomorrow night and going to try mousin' on the Swift. SOME HUGE fish down below Rt 9, inaccessible by foot...They dont like to play too much during the day. Going to coax them with the big shit...Ill try and remember by camera this time.

If anyone still wants sizzling topwater action during the day, the water releases get the trout looking up and they abolutely CRUSH huge foam bodies all day long. If anyone wants to come up and float, while your freestoners down there beg for rain, let me know :)

Tight Lines,

Chris

hey, you're finally done sticking those beads up your ass. The mouse has to be one of the top 10 flies ever made. Browns do love it, but it also works great on smallmouth, largemouth, and pike.

Dude, please..

I've been mousin' regularly for the last few years...Thanks for that riveting tip. I've been searching far and wide to obtain such information. Also, take a huge mudler or Sirloin, grease it up and use that as a mouse in a pinch, for trout and all those other FEEEEEESH you mentioned.

And for your information, there are (8) 12mm beads up my anus right now. I will never stop fishing beads. Once your balls drop and you want to catch a steelhead that will shit on any KOI you've ever caught, hit me up, Id be glad to get you accustomed to bead fishing. You will be hooked.

Simms, chill out. Carp and koi grow larger than steelhead. I hope you realize I'm a trout fisherman first, i only target carp or bass when the trout fishing sucks. I wasn't giving you any advice, just stating a fact.

I dont know what sucky trout fising is....

I live within 30minutes of two tailwater fisheries that pump water out all summer...

:)

I do this mostly for dispensary purposes, however sometimes there is a deluge of rain which dirties the water or I am fishing post spawn with dead, brown colored eggs on the river bottom so this method ensures i have the proper muted brown colors for the day at hand...

I've only caught one, and it was while sight fishing for carp. I've seen them more than once. I'm pretty sure the only way they can get in the river is by someone dumping their pet koi.

I have seen a few in the musky, as well as several goldfish.

That's it, next weekend I'm spinning up some mouses and heading to the Clark Fork at midnight, 3 blocks away...
