Cool trip ideas for 2015

Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
Lets face it- finding an affordably priced fly fishing trip is tough. You aren't going to find it at the Somerset Show thats for sure. And if u take Beetle's advice, you might end up buried behind his shed while he creepily carries on his blog life sub culture lifestyle until jersey city police finally connects the dots and arrests the son of a bitch. To avoid all that- lets talk folks. What trips are people looking at? What are the costs? How do you do it on the cheap?

As for myself- I am doing a cheap trip to belize this april . Guide's name is Bruce Leslie. He is only $300 bucks a day and if u go with a buddy cut that in half obviously. Makes for a very cheap 3-5 day trip if you want to try for bonefish/permit/tarpon. Lodge is a shitty bamboo shanty for $60 a night. ill take it. Also- I've heard wading is an effective way to find bonefish so u don't need to hire a guide every day which helps.

I am also hoping to camp in the Smith river valley this year and praying my lottery ticket is chosen this year. Thats up in the air. If I were to be chosen- it will be a minimalist trip with sandwiches and a tent. Never been on a trout trip overnight where it was that remote and I think it would be exciting to do that for 5 days irrespective of how the trout fishing is. Good fishing would be a bonus.

Anyone else scheming for this year?

I had to cancel my trip to va last year due to it falling on the same weekend as the daddy/daughter dance. Can't miss those cause it flies by too quick :) wwe had my buddies cabin rented out for 4 nights and we were fishing some private stretches of mossy creek and onto ther stream plus some public water. Split between 4 guys it was about 450 plus food and beer. I'd like to try to do it this Year but I'm really dying to get out west again. Decisions decisions:)

Ill be going out to WY for elk this year and your elk license also includes fishing. If i dont spend most of my time chasing elk ill go after some cutthroats

I will probably end up at the Slide Inn sometime in September this year.....I hope anyway......

The "Willow Pool"......or as some call it..."Kiddie Pool"......nice fish in there....:)

Gonna continue exploring the winds this summer. First two weeks of July in the Fitzpatrick wilderness at ross lake. It's a short hike so we'll probably spend some time in Yellowstone also.

Last two weeks of Aug well head back into the popo aggie wilderness via the Wind River reservation this time. Back to Grave lake to see Baptiste and fish the rest of the creek connecting the two with a bunch of stops along the way.

the plan is to be packing hornbeck canoes ala Valla this time, into Ross anyway.

ice out in the Siamese Ponds wilderness for a long weekend

Alaska for 8 days in September for me. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Anyone doing the Smith, contact Evan Botcher from the Hungry trout. He's done it a few times and the pictures look incredible.

Fly, are you still doing Kamchatka?

Not this year but one day I hope to. I think I would chose New Zealand before Kamchatka ,but both are big $$. Might have to slip and fall on a patch of black ice at the Chase bank on the way to work today.....

Savage River in MD with my buddy who is still very new to fly fishing...we had fun exploring Penns Creek, PA last year so it's hopefully turning this into an annual trip. Perhaps in a couple years, when he gets more comfortable fly fishing, we'll be following you guys out west or to the bahamas

Was thinking about a trip out to the Missouri, with some guys who've been out there a hundred times and know it will. Either camp out or stay at a roach motel.

Fished the Smith many years ago. AFAIK you have to float it, there is no foot access as it is surrounded by private property, mostly farms and ranches. Has this changed?

Steve

No it has not. Now- you must have a permit to float the river though and there is a lottery that u must enter to get one. The lodges get most of the permits and a few private parties get permits each year. Not expecting to get one but it would be a nice surprise.

Looks like it to me. That is either the Smith River or the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. From what I've heard , the fish in the smith are not huge and avg is 12-16'' but for that kind of scenery I'll give up size. Seems like a one of a kind trip and not many places like that in the U.S.

perfect for me, as i pee sitting down. for real though, that river looks awesome -- especially since they didn't see another boat all week....

I have plans to chase large brookies in Nipigon Bay. Can do it on the cheap since a family friend has a cabin up there and a float plane.

I also just got the Mallard book (50 best place to Fly Fish the Northeast) and Slate Run looks awesome. Might wanna take a week and camp/fish/explore that river.

Will hit the Moosehead lake region in Maine for lake run Brookies in early September.

Yes, I did a spring break week up there with my kids 2013. That fall I was running up there every weekend. So 5 or 6 trips.

Slate is tough. Beautiful, but tough. I was there when it was too cold or too low and batted zero. I had to beat up on the browns Slate Run Tackle puts into pine to vent.

I've done some extensive exploring on the back roads through tiadaghton and found a few blue line honey holes in them hills.

Been dyin to get back up there, settle the score w/slate and revisit those blue lines. Hit me up for some info or let me know if you ever wanna do a kamikaze weekend run up there.

Nice to know that it is still pretty isolated. I floated from White Sulfur Springs to Eden Bridge, around three days if I remember correctly. Yes, most of the fish are 12-16" range which is pretty good for a wild, unstocked fishery. On the last day I did hook up with a brown in the 20" range that eventually broke my 3x tippet on a rock. And no, you are not likely to see more than a couple of people during the entire trip. And yes, the scenery is AWSOME.

Steve

I have been attempting coerce my wife into letting me take a trip to Patagonia for next March (2016). I started with subtle hints. Pictures on the internet, A magazine article. Now I am getting a bit bolder. I showed her I trip I want to book. She has not said yes but she has not no either. I think I have a chance but I still need lady luck on my side.

Just do it. It'll be a test of your relationship. If she loves you, she'll understand. If she leaves, she leaves. Other fish in the sea. Dont be a sissy.

Man up Alice. Take off your panties and go to the coffee can where she keeps your Kohenes and put them back on. Do what I do. First i call her out of the kitchen, Second, I tell her Im going to Patagonia and I want her to start to pack my gear for the trip and to remind her to iron my fly vest. Third, i tell her i only want to say this once.

What, nothing about her bare feet?

I am being honest when I say this, and I understand you guys need man up on the site. But in the end we are all in the same drift boat when it comes to Marriage and wives. We would rather get the wife’s ok then take matters into our own hands and get all that comes with that decision. It is the 3 rings of matrimony that will always come into play. You just have to understand what each ring represents

Then you wind up standing naked on a frozen lake chugging Jaeger to keep warm. Good plan.
