Cannonsville Releases

millrun

Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
Does anyone know what is going on with the Cannonsville Dam releases? I was under the impression that the release rate in August according to the Flex Flow plan was to be 260 CFS unless it was spilling over the dam in which case the release would be 1500 CFS. The Cannonville Dam is less than 100 percent of capacity, but the release is still 1500 CFS. Does anyone know why this is so and how long we can expect this release rate to continue?

Hi,

This time of year the release is 1500 cfs if Cannonsville is greater than 95% full. (technically, August needs a sliding scale to determine, 100% on Aug 1st and 95% on Sept. 1st.) So, in August the required amount to implement 1500 starts at 10% and goes dwon to 95%. This also explains why Pepacton was at its max release of 700 and has started to come back down as Pepacton reached 95% capacity. There is also an assumption about the total capacity of the three reservoirs.

Check out the Office of the Delaware Rivermaster to see the actual graph and chart to determine release on any given day. IT looks a bit complicated, but it really is not.

We are expecting 2-4 inches of rain today through Monday and I would expect the reservoirs to get near spill or actually spill again.

Tricos are roaring every morning, but they can be tricky. Some flying ants, but spotty.

Hi,

There also was an agreement between the parties to use another pool of water (IERQ from down basin states) to increase the minimum release from 260 to 325 or 300 cfs, depending on reservoir level, through the summer.
