Adirondacks on MDW.. Help!!

It's been a goal of mine to spend some time exploring the Adirondacks this year. Unfortunately, my work schedule has been hectic and I've found myself working weekends more often than not. With that said, holiday weekends like Memorial Day are rare opportunities to get away for a bit. I know crowds will be insane but you gotta work with what you got.

Being a total newbie to the Adirondacks, I'm hoping some of guys here more familiar with the region (I'm looking at you sunsign) can loan me some advice.

My ideal trip would be a deep hike into a wilderness area where we can set up a base camp for a couple nights and from there, hike some peaks and do some fishing. The Adirondacks are so expansive I just don't know where to start looking. I am willing to do research on my own but would really appreciate some guidance in the right direction.

Anyone ever do anything like this?

Mike Valla is the man.

Read his article in eastern fly fishing on brookie ponds..

AHHHH SHIT, Sun. lol

E- Depends on what you want to do, what type of fishing.

Those rivers up near Lake Placid will be absolutely ON FIRE at that time. I"m headed up the Day after Memorial Day, for 6 days.

I cant speak to the pond fishing, however.

If you want some remoteness, make your way over to the St. Regis area. The trout fishing is great on the St. Regis (St. Regis falls area) and I assume the canoe area will still be great with with trout before it gets too warm if you wanted to camp each night.

The Ausable River area is right in my wheel house, so ask away.

Emoussa,
The Hungry Trout is a great place to stay right on the river, so you don't have to shit in the woods if you don't want to.
They are located on a stretch of fly fishing only \ catch and release. Good pub \ Bar, and nice restaurant so you don't have to look far for a drink.
As for fishing, it should be smoking at that time. You can check with Jones outfitters in Lake Placid, they are a good fly shop and a good source of information.
The Ausable is like wading on greased blowing balls in some spots, so be careful. That place is loaded with nice fish. PM me if you have any questions
Tight lines,
Mads
