A Maine Trip

BRK TRT

Small stream, wild trout flyfisher
We just got back yesterday from our annual trip to Maine. We have been going for over 25 years and this is one of the best ever. We decieded to fish the small streams that tumble down from the mountains, as well as the remote headwater ponds that feed some of them. The hikes in were very tough but the views of the landscape and the streams and ponds were breathtaking. Where you were able to drop a fly on the water 1 and 2 brookies rose to the fly in a heartbeat. These streams and ponds held great numbers of brookies, and the sizes ranged from 5 to 16 inches. The water temps varried from 55 to 62. We fished mostly dries, Bombers, Wulffs, and EH Caddis, and streamers, Mickey Finns, and Edson Tigers.

We took over 300 photos, and I'll post more later. Any questions you have I'll be happy to answer.

BT,

You should be spawning books or at the very least articles in fly mags.

How about writing an article with pics for your NEFF family.

Wow BT never ceasing to amaze. Great pics nice trip. I just recently got into my first native brookie action and it was awesome.

How much hiking did you do? I wanted to plan a trip just like yours, where I could fly in and then hike in to some remote rivers and ponds. I assume you camped overnight? Permits? lol, sorry for all the of questions, but I dont want to reinvent the wheel so to speak.
P.S. Pictures are truely amazing.

NJDrew, we hiked sometimes 4 hours a day. In one area we were told by some loggers do not take any other logging trail, no ones going to go up there to get you. The area is the Western mts, borders NH, and Quebec. We did not camp overnite, but it can be done if you like that stuff. There are guides who do float plane trips. Try Rangeley Region Guides Assoc, for some good info.
