Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Who's Your Leader

who's my leader? Well it isn't John Corzine!

I've been using the Orvis Braided leaders for a few years now, with frog hair for the tippets

For trout I use mostly Superstrong leaders.

In saltwater I lean toward Ande, Mirage, or Seagar.

Fishing the West Branch of the Delaware is difficult to fish when it is low and clear. You really need a long leader but I have had problems in the past in getting the long leaders to turn over. It is frustrating having your leader end up in a ball.

I have over the past two years been using hand tied knotted leaders made and sold by Yellowtone Anglers Fly Shop. The butt and mid section are made with Maxima and the tippet is made of Umpqua or Rio. I buy the twelve foot knotted leaders and cut back the 5X a little and add about 18 inches of 6X Rio tippet material. This seems to let me cast tighter loops. (most of the time).

The knots can be a problem when there is crud in the water but not enough to stop using these leaders.

I have been buying the standard mono leaders from RIO, Orvis, and a couple of others for anything over 7 1/2 foot......
