Accessories Wading Boots

In the next few months, I will be needing new boots.....I have been wearing Korkers Redsides, they have done me well for three years and are starting to fall apart.....I have flat feet, and my ankles and back have been aching after two or three hours on the water, I find I need to sit a few minutes every once in a while...anyone know of a boot with excellent arch support, or a slip-in support that would not get nasty from wading....? This sucks, I'm 44 years old and feel 90 after fishing for a few hours....I need an arch support!!!!

Simms is coming out with a new Vapor in a felt sole this winter, maybe have a look at that. Another possibility would be to get an orthotic insert for inside your wading shoes. There was an article in a past Fly Fishing Guide that suggested using orthotics.

"I'm a sports medicine doc & agree with PatrickC. The Powerstep orthotics are definitely good, I have a pair in my golf shoes. In our office we use a lot of the Hapad Comf-orthotic sports replacement insoles and that is what I have in my Simms Wading boots - I have the Rivershed and insoles just starting to break down on me after 3-4 years. They have some built in arch support & are easy to remove to dry. Price is about $20 shipped to your door with priority mail, cheaper if you do regular mail. I have no vested interest in the company, but it is a great product. Happy feet certainly make for a better day on the water!"

I have the same problem flatfeet and I have bad knees. I have been using Dr. Scholl's inserts have had no problem with them. They do help. LU I feel for you buddy. It sucks getting old. I still want to fish for 12 hours at a clip like I did when I was in my 30s, There are some days I can still do it. I pay for it the next day. I dread the day I can no longer fish the way I want to. I still fish with my fathers oldest friend Lloyd. He is in his late 70s and a shadow of his former self. I just hope the day I can no longer tye a fly, cast a line, wade a stream, climb a deer stand or hang with the dog in the field, someone will have the decency to take my into the woods and pop a 357 slug in the back of my head.

As far as boots Patagonia aluminum bars , I will never go back to felt again.

you dont necessarily have to buy "wading boots" you can buy any boot you want and either use the patagonia strap on cleats or buy the simms screw in studs. Danner used to make a leather and nylon boot and there are many boots made for the outdoors that have no insulation in them.

I have had excellent results with these insoles. While I rmeove them from the boot after fishing it's probably not necessary.
