WAder boots and streamers

leadhead

sleeps with the fishes
Just purchased my first pair of stocking foot waders, now I need boots. Do I bring the waders w/ me to the store to try them on w/ the waders?
If I decide to buy online, do I go a size or two up from my normal size shoe?

Also I was looking for suggestions on streamer patterns and sizes for the BFB this Sat

thanks, leadhead:beer:

Boot size will depend on the manufacturer. A lot size their boots assuming you'll have a 3mm, 4mm (whatever) neoprene wader stocking foot. Some do not and recommend ordering a 1/2 size up. All you need to know is what your waders' feet are (thickness), what your shoe size is and do a little research about the boots you want to buy. The catalogs and websites generally give good information about the sizing.

OR...

1. Take your waders with you and try on boots in the store (or pick a store that sells your waders so you can just use a pair they have there).
2. A lot of stores/shops will have neoprene socks that you can use for trying on the wading boot rather than putting on the entire wader. You just need to know how thick your waders' stocking feet are.
3. Most likely, if you tell everybody here what size shoe you wear and specifically what waders you bought, somebody should be able to tell you what size wading boot you'll need.

leadhead..I wear size 10 (new balance) and 10 1/2 (nike) sneakers...I bought a pair of Orvis silverlabels in large and they fit fine...I like to use a nice heavy pair of woolen socks under the neoprene and use a size 11 pair of Chota Abrams creek boots...all very comfortable...

I believe in buying from the smaller sporting stores and fly shops that provide the service. I think it takes a big set of balls to walk into a store, take the guys time, try on boots, discuss options and and walk out to buy on line. If a shop owner helps you, help him and buy from him even if it cost you a few more bucks, just my opinion.

I bought my stocking foot boots online and ordered a size larger. When I ordered the boots they said the were made to fit over waders but the first pair I bought were too small in a 13. I wear a 13ew and a 13 boot is to small. I have no problem with the larger size boot. If you see a pair in the store try them on with the wader before you buy them.

I used to have the cabelas guide tech boots with cabelas waders until they got busted. I the got the new Simms L2 waders, but the boots were too tight. Since the boots were old and falling apart, I then bought new boots. During that process I realized that I got lucky the first time just ordering boots over the internet. It really makes a difference to try on different models of boots with your waders.

That's just my 2c. -K

Chotas seem to be made to use the size you normally wear, such as,I wear a 13 workboot and a size 13 chota fits perfect over my Orvis waders..no need to upsize certain brands. My Orvis boots needed to be 1.5 sizes higher because they shrink so bad my feet would be killing me.
