Cape May fisherman charged with firing at pilot whale that beached ashore in 2011 | NJ.comNew Jersey tuna fisherman Daniel Archibald faces charges of shooting whales.
Defendant Daniel Archibald is charged with shooting at whales from the ship Capt. Bob around August of 2011.
An 11-foot, 740-pound pilot whale was discovered with a .30 caliber bullet lodged in its jaws on Sept. 24, 2011. This appears to have caused infection and the whale starved to death. The bullet appears to match a rifle found that was owned by Mr. Archibald, a World War II-era Mosin-Nagant rifle.
