Neversink Tipi Question

Hey Guys,

So I recently purchased a 16 Foot Tipi and I'm looking to keep it near the Neversink Gorge for the 2015 season. According to page 3 of the DEC Maps ( http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/fish_marine_pdf/pfrneversink.pdf ) the land above Eden Brook is privately owned. Does anyone know how I could get in touch with this landowner?? Or maybe someone who might know someone?? I'm looking to speak to anyone with land adjacent to the river, or anything within a 30 minute hike, even. Even in areas of the gorge where the state owns both banks, if you go far enough away from the river you'll hit private land -- that's where I want to set up shop. I'd obviously be willing to pay rent or sign a lease or whatever for the time my Tipi would sit on their property. Finders fee is the GPS coordinates to the tipi, you can crash there whenever so long as i'm not there, and a 20$ gift card to Sizzler.

Is it showing the land owner on there? I know the ones I have looked at for Onondaga County had the name, contact address, and telephone number on there.

Hopefully the land owner is a cool dude and lets you lease or get access to the area you want to fish.

Yes. If I select the "i" and click on a parcel another window pops up with the landowners name. There are fields for contact info but they are not populated. This is a major help though. There are many owners but the main dude is Benjamin Wechsler. Pretty sure this is the guy the state acquired the whole gorge from...

okay so after googling a shit ton of people I think i have a tangible lead. one of the landowners is a professor and on the university website it says "His interests include the environment and Native American traditions like the sweat lodge and the vision quest."

I use to pour over plat maps for Midwestern states back in the day. Used to love knockin on doors n meetin people out there. Met some of the best people I know doin that.

What you are looking at is a VERY old hatchery and stretch of fishing cabins belonging to clubs.

It's late and I'm tired; but one of the first real fish hatcheries and trout stocking experiments in our region and the country started on that brook. In the gorge.

I accidentally hiked up that dirt road from the southern end of the gorge after an awesome day hitting small mouth in the summer, the lower part of the gorge is my favorite. The trail turned into a road with small private hunting/fishing cabins and then I found an unguarded eden brook hatchery. If you look far back in my posts you could bring up the time when I found it.



It first it looked like a very small stream with multiple dams as I hiked up. The first 2-3 pools had maybe a few minnows. Then come a series of netted larger pools. Maybe the size of a living room. Damn they had huge trout in them.

It was just a little creek with 2 sheds at its focal point of trout raising. Very cool to see, glad I had my 2 friends with me to witness it. I believe the lease for the historic eden brook hatchery just lapsed and was not renewed. That water will most likely flow right into the gorge soon. It's ice cold

As I said look up the history of the eden brook hatchery in the gorge. Very cool that you found that.

I'm down if you find one of those fishing clubs to allow.

Although, I've often thought of spending the night in the gorge; but the many times I've hiked out of there from the oakland valley/cold spring side in the dark scared that right out of me. There's something about being in there at night that just doesn't sit well. You just feel the need to hightail it out of there

Oh shit THAT guy is THAT close to the gorge?

I remember him in the Times herold record, and in national news.

Shrugged it off didnt think it was that close to my river
