As did LU, I too hit the river yesterday, albeit a different river and quarry. Fished from 5:45 to 7:00 last evening in the cool temperatures and a flannel shirt for some pikes. I managed to land one, miss three and have a couple follows.
Here is the fly with which I have caught quite a few pikes. It has taken quite a beating but I think there is another fish or two still in it before being retired. It is a tube fly with a special tandem hook rig of a 6/0 Partridge Universal Predator X main hook with a Gamakatsu Octopus 2/0 trailer. The trailer is 90° to the main hook point and is looped onto a titanium wire that is lashed to the 6/0 shank. In addition I will on some lash a glass rattle to the top of the main shank, just behind the hook eye.
