Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

It ain't Davey McPhail, but a start..

After watching the video Beetle posted, realized I had most of the materials to attempt the Durham Ranger, my first attempt at a real salmon fly....and with some direction..I lack the correct size tinsel for the body, I wove my own for the smaller size....The red in the tail is wrong, and I lack the correct hackle, but hell, I gave it a go anyway, proportion and cleanliness are lacking, but practice makes perfect I guess.....Hey Beetle....thanks for the video!!!
After two hours, a lot of dollars of wasted material, and fun and frustration I produced this.....Thelonius Monk will have to wait!!! I need bigger hooks, this is on a size 8 Tiemco something or other...:)

Please do not sully the pages of NEFF with such grotesque representations of what ever that is supposed to be. Now, i need to go and flush out my eyes with Visine. :acid:

Looking good! A suggestion to help you along. Why not start with Hairwings? They basically require the same skill set,and it is a good way to get used to certain techniques without wasting a lot of materials. They also fish well. When no-one is looking I've been known to swing undertakes for trout. They work really good. Keep up the good work. You are progressing nicely in your quest.

That cuts deep dluver....no Thirsty......but I like the flies. ....:)

What are you planning on doing with all them? Just curious..

The ones I have recently tried will be saved so I can check my progress and see mistakes.....if I get to the point of being happy with the flies, I will probably give them away like I do with most of the trout flies I tie....As I don't have time to use them all..

I'm sure this comment is probably absurd to you guys..but I don't know any better: Can you use salmon flies for trout? Why/why not?

Sure...if they can get their lips around the hook, I am sure they will eat it....I caught a trout on this thing without trying very hard...

It's not a salmon fly, but I don't see why a trout would eat this and not a salmon fly....
