Hike in camp/fish ASP or Catskills

Winter Blues gives way to Spring Fever
A buddy of mine and I would like to do some hiking and I was hoping that someone could send us in the right direction. Here is the plan:

September 10-12
Day 1: hike in 10 miles or so, set up camp, fish, rub sore feet.
Day 2: fish
Day 3: fish, hike out.

We'd like the opportunity to get into some banner fishing that isn't normally accessible to the roadside fisher. Both the Adirondacks and the Catskills are within easy drive. Can you offer any possibilities? I am relatively new to the area and most everything is still unexplored to me. Thanks!

There are some great ponds to hike into in the Moose River Plains area of the Adirondacks, though not generally 10 mile hikes. Some of the best Adirondack brook trout fishing can be found at Ice house Pond & Squaw Lake and more good fishing is to be found at Lost, Helldiver, Mitchell, Sly & Whites pond as well

Also, there is good fishing in the ponds in the Santa Clara tract: Santa Clara Tract - NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation

Information on these places is readily available on the internet... if it wasn't, I would keep it a secret. ;)

I just returned from the Moose River plains- the blueberries are in so lots of bears and humans gathering. Have fun.

Hmm, how about some hike in access to streams/rivers? Pond fishing is ok, but I guess I prefer moving water.

well, if it's streams you want, just pick a route on a map. both parks are chok full of small brookie streams. for the most part, you can camp anywhere along the trails within the two parks provided you are at least 100' from trails or water. check the regs though, some regions of the adirondacks have bans on fires regardless of season and bear canisters are now required.

10-12 miles seems a bit heavy to me under a full load and with the intent of maximizing fishing time, especially in good brookie terrain. something anywhere within the 4-10 range sounds more...enjoyable...depending on grades. if you want more hiking or still feel too close to civilization, you can always hike from base camp without the full load; much nicer.

i have a spot in the adk high peaks ive wanted to try fishing for years but havent had the motivation to get that far backwoods with the rod in a while. not to mention its one of the places you cant have campfires.

Blue Ledges in the Adirondacks is a real easy hike to a real isolated spot on the Hudson River Gorge. Ponds and another river are in the area as well. September should be an beautiful time of year to be there.
