Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Everybody hates Hillary, everybody hates Trump

I keep reading about how the Democrats, and the Republicans, have managed to come up with the two most disliked Presidential candidates in history.

Why can't the Libertarian candidate get a break (do you even know who he is)?
If you're considering sitting this one out, because either candidate would be a disaster....

Consider this:
  • I you're a liberal, the Libertarians will legalize pot, let you marry anything, and won't try to restrict abortions.
  • If you're a conservative, the libertarians won't take away your guns, won't make doing business impossible, and they'll cut taxes.
If you're one of those liberals that's afraid of all the guns, have some more pot, you'll mellow out.

Because most people, liberal or conservative, think libertarians are idiots?
If you're so inclined, there's also the Green Party, but history tells us that they have even less of a chance. They may appeal to a few liberals, but they have very little "draw" for a conservative constituency.

Judging by their own candidates I'm thinking liberals and conservatives should probably be quiet:)

Meh. Don't confuse the message with the messengers.

Most people don't think Gary Johnson is an idiot. (See Pete, I looked him up.) And I certainly don't think Pete is an idiot. But the fact remains that libertarianism is regarded as a kooky political ideology bordering on a secular religion. Conservatives and liberals aren't going to drop their assault rifles and their bongs and jump ship, just because libertarianism overlaps with one or two of their pet causes.

Right now it looks like lots of people will stay home, or will vote for a variety of third party no-names, none of whom will make much of a dent. For liberals, a Bloomberg candidacy was the scariest prospect - he's got way more business acumen than Trump and nanny-state bona fides - but he's sitting this one out.

...... But the fact remains that libertarianism is regarded as a kooky political ideology bordering on a secular religion. ...
They're "kooky" because the mainstream parties and media portray them that way. If the traditional Democrat and Republican constituencies, could get over the idea of imposing their beliefs on everyone, it wouldn't seem the least bit kooky.

If you're displeased with the choice between Hillary and Trump, staying home accomplishes nothing.

"Holding your nose", and voting for the "lesser evil", is just playing their game. If you're not a true believer, that's what they want.

However, if a third party, captured a significant percentage of the vote (maybe even a little of the electoral college), the mainstream might feel less complacent. They might remember what happened to the Federalist, Whig, and Democrat-Republican parties.

BTW: I didn't litter my original post with a bunch of smiles, because this is the "JOKE" section of the forum. You weren't supposed to take my warped sense of humor too seriously.

Why are we wasting such valuable Fly Angling website topics on two characters who offer everyone nothing?

To begin with, it's an "off topic" section of the forum, intended for anything we might find humorous.

If the humor is related to fly fishing, that's great.
If not, no problem.
It's been a long time since we censored anything but spam.
In an extreme case, we might move some objectionable material to one of the "opt-in" sections.

I'm with you - there have been fishing reports posted with no responses and questions asked with no answers....but our current crappy political climate gets a bunch of responses...
