Delaware River main stem temp history

afishinado

Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
This site has by far the most knowledgeable Upper Delaware fisherman on the net. I really appreciate all the info. I’ve been fishing the Upper D for over 30 years. I started catching trout by accident when fishing for smallmouths and I became hooked. When I began FF in my teens, I targeted the huge browns and rainbows of the D back in the seventies.

I read several posts and agreed that the main stem is warmer now because of flow management than in the past. I actually looked back on the USGS site and found the temp history for Callicoon dating back 30 years. I appears that the mean temp in the summer has remained relatively constant. The main stem is for the most part a spring trout river, since summertime temps are too high to support/hold most trout. We all know that the trout migrate to the WB in June and July. Note, the temps listed are mean temps.for each month. The high temps on a daily basis reach well up into the high 70’s (*F) in July and August.

I’m not sure that enough water will ever be released to cool the mian stem down to Callicoon in the peak summer months. I’m interested in your comments. Thanks again for the great site and excellent source of FF info.

Below is a table that I cut and pasted from the USGS site. The number are jumbled a bit. I can’t post the link (<20 posts), but you can go to the USGS site, pick Callicoon gage, click “summary for additional data”, click “monthly statistics”, and pick “temperature” parameter.
