July 27th South Branch Raritan River Cleanup

Duke Island is stocked above and below the falls pretty heavy. FYI.... The crowds casting with salt water rods, 2/0 hooks w/3oz of lead are just as heavy! The Flagtown stretch of the South Branch is stocked in 5 locations. This year was the first year I have seen hold over trout and fingerlins.

if you had one pick in rod and reel what would it be

Special K, I have owned Loomis rods for over 10 years, there is no doubt they have the best warranty in the industry. I took a trip a few years back to Nova Scotia Canada, on the trip back, US Customs inspected my travel tube. In the process of there inspection they brok one of my rods. I filled...

    Head Lamps?

I also have the same model as NJ drew, absolutely love having multiple lighting modes! Plenty of light, good battery life, and it easily stashes away in a small vest pocket.

Free gear for a kid in need...

Dave, sorry to hear that, I hope all is well. Are you thinking of BullsHead Island? I think you can contact the Boys Scouts of America (NJ H.Q.) on Route 22 in Watchung or Union. They should be able to tell you what troup or camp that is. I will send you a PM to see if I can meet up or drop the...

    Whats in your (fly) wallet??

I carry 2 boxes, 1 for dries and 1 for streamers/buggers and nymphs. I have just about everything, sorted by season and stage. So I am sure this response didn't help you narrow anything down haha!

    Night Fishing???

My brothers and I often fish after dark, especially when the hatches come off late. Targeting those large wise fish is often best after dark, muddlers, buggers, all good after the sun goes down.

Do you ever dry your flies?

I have waterproof boxes, but if I didn't, yeah I would deffinately dry them.

    condition of the KLG???

I was in KLG last night with my brothers. The water is still low, and slightly clouded. The fish were hitting hard. I saw a mixed hatch last night, Lt cahill, BWO's, and a few Yellow Stone Flies. There is plenty of fish in there, hope this helps and have a good day at the river!

    Orvis Zero "G" nightmare

I would be asking for the refund also! I can't understand how a company like Orvis stays in buisness, their quality is substandard and they charge an arm and a leg. I bought an Orvis multi tool/line clipper last year. I paid $42 for the thing and the lower cutting jaw snapped off while cutting...

    How important is rod length?

Dave is exactly right, I am fishing a 3 weight Sage 7' and it can be hell to cast. I have casted both of my brothers Gloomis rods, both are 4 weight 8'-3" rods, they are alot easier to load and have a greater range.
