Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
Haha! Today is my birthday, so I'm calling out sick from work and hitting BFB! Raining cats and dogs here in Bayonne, but hopefully it won't blow over to Branchville. Looks like a nymphy day to me, I'll let you guys know how it goes!
Hooked on my B-Day,
Mikey
Hi again,
I definitely agree with testing rods out before you purchase, that's for sure. I was merely asking for recommendations from people who also do lots of leg-work into the woods. I've never actually purchased anything online and its primarily because I've heard so many horror stories...
Hey folks,
Look, I'm not saying that expensive rods aren't good investments. I'm sure they're worth the money to people that are willing to pay it. I did, however, take some offense to Catskill Lover's zinger about buying the expensive outfit from me when I realize that I "don't like fly...
Exactly how new to fly fishing do you think I am? I'm a returning enthusiast, not a new born... In any case, even if I HAD millions of dollars stashed away, I wouldn't buy outfits ANYWHERE near that price range. The thought of "A good carpenter is only as good as his tools" is a load of bull...
Hi folks,
I'm in the market to purchase a new fly outfit. Since I've been doing MUCH more hiking than I used to, I'm considering rods with multiple piece (not the 2 piece rods that I'm used to). I've cast with a 4 piece rod about 10 years ago and REALLY didn't like the segmented feel of it...
Hey hey hey, I never said it was a good idea, haha
Just an interesting theory I had while I was in work and
unable to actually test it. I'll have to give it a shot and
see how it works. I know it might not seem necessary
and from a 'catching' point of view, you're probably right,
but I...
I definitely agree that it doesn't seem like it would work in most scenarios.
I was thinking this technique would be reserved primarily for strikes that
occur almost the instant the fly touches the water. Before you start your
stripping and/or mending to get a good drift. Also, this isn't...
I haven't been able to do as much fishing as I've wanted to lately...
Work has been crazy and it seems like my cell phone is permanently
attached to my ear... Anyway, I've been thinking about a few little
mistakes that I made on recent fishing trips. One thing in particular
was after a nice...
"Suprisngly only twice! I used alot of bow and arrow casting so I didnt have anywhere to get snagged."
Sorry to sound like such a rookie, but just making sure I'm following you correctly. Bow and arrow cast is where you pinch the bend of the hook and pull the flyline taught, loading the rodtip...
Thanks boys, I knew I could count on you guys.
I've heard that cotton is a killer in the woods, but
sometimes wool is TOO warm. I'll have to check out
polypropylene next time I head up to Ramsey Outdoors.
Thanks again,
TL,
Mikey
Hey folks,
I'm going to be hitting a bunch of rivers this winter, I was wondering what you guys wore under your waders to keep warm. I've noticed that some tackleshop goodies are made to catch more fisherman than fish, so I figured that I'd ask the experts again. I'm in the process of...
Hey fellas,
Had an interesting theory based on one of my own personal experiences with a dog. When I was about 12 I was playing basketball in my friend's backyard. My buddy went in the house to get something for us to drink and I was left outside with the dog... All was going fine until I...
Ok, good, now I don't feel like such a freak, lol
I've lived in Bayonne, NJ my entire life and 99% of
the guys my age look down their noses at fishing in general.
Its sad that they're missing out on nature as a whole.
Apparently, their ideas of fun involve playing video games
in a dark...
Good call, I'm glad you guys corrected me, actually. lol
I'd rather be wrong and corrected quickly than wrong forever.
In any case, that little section of Flatbrook is one of my favorites.
I hope to see you fellas around there someday. You'll know
its me because I'll most likely be the...
Hey fellas,
I'm in the market to get a new wading jacket. I'd love to hear what ones you
wear and whatever you have to say about them. In the past, I've avoided
wearing jackets while wading (haven't done much winter fishing, obviously ;))
but I'm hitting the rivers hard this year. Also, do...
Good deal, I knew Tight Lines was the closest one around from
talking to other people around the forum, but wasn't able to
picture it in my mind, very helpful post.
Thanks Jer,
Tight Lines,
Slick
Well, here are a few things that I do when I fish dries...
I work really hard on giving a very light presentation. I try ending
the cast about 4 feet above the water's surface and allow the fly
to gently fall to the water. Another little trick that I like is to throw
alittle side-ways flicks...
On such a beautiful day, catching a fish is just like the cherry on top of the cake.
I might head up there tomorrow too. - Don't know for sure yet, because of
work, but BFB sounds awfully tempting! ;)
Maybe I'll see you there, Jer. - You know where I'll be, if I'm there. :D
That reminds me...
