  • Hey Adam, my name is Mark Eberstein. I graduated from central a year after ya.

fly fishing is awesome. i think it would be a good bet if ya started with streamers, or nymphs. with streamers, there is no wrong way to fish them. you can dead drift them, you can swing them, strip them, etc. woolly buggers, size 6 - 10, mickey finn's size 6 - 10, are your basic streamers which do very well.

hare's ear, pheasant tail, and prince nymph's are all solid bets in sizes 14 - 18. midge pupae are my best producers around here tied on scud hooks size 16 - 20. nymphs are best dead drifted. it does take a lot of skill to dead drift nymphs.

the south branch of the raritan river is your best place to get started. the three bridges bridge gets stocked, but the area around stanton station and ymca camp carr is the best. the state heavily favors this stretch with 20 + inch trout. may is probably the best month fly fish the south branch. april ain't too shabby neither.
