Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
There seems like the past few years there's been an abundance of small bows- especially in Fall creek and the inlet both fall and spring (all btwn 5-12 in, majority lake fish not wash downs from above IMO). Had a non-wash out the one day i was able to get to ithaca this fall- storm was a day...
I don't fish the salmon much (once this year- I hate crowds), but did a lot in college ending 2 years ago. If you really want to catch a lot of fish you can't beat a 8 or 10 mm troutbead in peach, oregon cheese, or dead egg. I won't tell you exactly how I jazz them up but adding a little white...
I am floating the grand canyon (co river) next week, pretty excited!!. I've read a bit about the fishing, I guess it can be a little bit ridiculous in certain areas. I expect lots of midges in the unproductive water and general tailwater patterns, but have also read that they are electroshocking...
On the farmington this weekend had a fly fisherman (and probably the best cast in the pool- besides my self :fart:) catch and handle a stockie rainbow for about 10 mins describing how fat he was etc. - now I am all for loving on a fish but it was excessive a minute + after he put it back in the...
LL Bean all the way- I have always used them, last summer they took a 5 month beating in west-central AK- For premium waders (premium being 375$ + ) the booties wore through the bottom. I wrote them a letter and sent my pair in (letter detailed booties and offered improvements on seams and even...
Thanks Simms,
Couldn't have it any other way- I've seen you post a bunch on the quinnie- is it worth a stop or does it get super busy fri-weekends? Thanks- best fishes!
It looks like I am leaning towards the deerfield r., westfield r., and deep brook in ma - possibly making a run down to the farmington or housatonic in ct- I am amazed by the camping options in western ma, but it seems like the ice storm last winter did some damage. Per state land in western...
Plan on leaving boston Thursday night and car camping/moteling till Sunday afternoon. Really at any point I don't want to be more than 5hrs from Boston (got to be in nj for jury duty on monday morning)
Girlfriend (living in boston) is a little past beginner, she can cast acurately to about...
I am leaning heavily towards southern Maine- anyone fish the
Presumpscot River, Little osipee, Pleasant, or other water bodies in that area etc?
Or what about the Deerfield, Swift, or Williams Rivers in Mass- worth fishing, whats pressure like and stockie/wild %?
Thanks!
Hey everybody,
Looking for some advice on fishing out of boston, this upcoming fri, sat and sun, teaching a semi-beginner (girlfriend)?- wild trout or smallies?- Never really fished MA, MN, or NH other than an odd cast here and there- otherwise it'll be a road trip to the catskills- any advice...
I was there for the first time mid last week- actually picked up a nice rainbow, along with a bunch of browns all sizes, and like you the biggest 'real' stream brookie of my life- but minutes before my camera decided to bite the dust so no picture as well- hah, thats the way it goes- good to...
also , sorry forgot to add, but rarely does the cortland factory outlet have cheap gear that is not odd sized, in fact I'd say 90% of the time they overprice- was there 2 weeks ago
Go for a Scott in the 3-5wt range- great rods and relatively cheap. My favorite rod, over a sage, pair of orvis, redington, and even my winston is a 4wt scott (a bit shorter than what your looking for) at under $250
check them out for small rods
Most of the Finger Lakes are now sans smelt, replaced by alewife. The publicity for the streams is still there, but honestly its not worth the trip unless you want to jig/use downriggers on the lakes- as for streams- if you dont know what your doing the runs are short and fickle with little fish...
