Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
Permagloss or spar urethane would be your best bets. Spar varnish would be OK too but it dries a bit softer than the urethanes(and takes longer). Flex coat or other thread finishes are too brittle. When they make the rods they do coat them with an epoxy but it is a coating epoxy(more like a...
Last time I went somewhere without a rod to "just look" there was a blitz going on with 20# stripers coming clear out of the water after peanuts. By the time I ran to the car and got back it was over and I couldn't buy a fish the rest of the night. I usually don't have a fly on until I see...
Agates look nicer but carbides are more durable. It's up to the individual as to which is better. All of my personal rods have Mildrums or Perfections for the stripper but most of the ones I've made for other people have agates.
Most useful: hook hone or file, forceps or needlenose pliers, and fingernail clippers. Those three things along with some flies, tippet and sometimes split-shot are all I really use every time I'm fishing.
Least useful: nail knot tool(I could probably tie a dozen nail knots by hand by the time...
Just FYI, Rutgers is trying to track these so you should contact them and report it. They arent Rhaphigaster nebulosa(native to europe), they are really Halyomorpha halys(eastern asian) and have the potential to become a serious agricultural threat. I think a trout might try and eat one but...
8 weight is fine, you just have to limit the size of flies you throw. It ain't gonna break unless you high stick it. Then again, you'd probably break anything high sticking blues so just keep the tip low and fight them with the butt.
Get a handful of x-acto blades or razor blades, some washers, and a nut and bolt that'll fit through the hole in the blade. Bolt the blades together using the washers to space them as wide as you want the strips and you have a cherry zonker cutter. As to the problem of cutting the fur from the...
I have had a pair of the Cabela's waders for about a year now without any problems. I decided on them because they fit better than the big brands did. I'm a bit on the short side so anything that fits my feet would have too long of an inseam and that gets a bit annoying after a few hours. When...
dcabarle PMed me to tell me that he updated my account status and the option is there now. It wasn't available before but now it is. Thank you for the help, I appreciate it. Now I'm no longer inactive!
I don't seem to have that option. I can't find anything that says "custom user title" or anything like that anywhere in the user CP. Am I just not seeing it or maybe I don't have that privilage because I've been inactive for a while? I'm confused now.
I see that everyone has words under their names and I was wondering why mine says "inactive over 6 months" even after making a few posts? Can that be changed or will I always be known as the inactive one?
We have two FAT orange cats and I tied some nymphs with the brushed out fur. They came out a nice creamish color with a slight orange hue. I put them in the box and forgot about them. One day I was having no luck at all no matter what I was using and decided to try a fat cat nymph. First drift...
I grew up in the town of Millstone, so I grew up fishing the canal and the river. We've fished from just about anything that can float down the canal, and the current IS much faster than it looks. I was flyfishing out of a dinghy down there for a while until I gave it to my nephew. Not too many...
I use a cheap pair of hiking boots with my neoprenes. I've been doing this for a while now with no problems, except that you need to drill drain holes(in the sneakers) if they're waterproof. The beauty of this method is that as he grows or wears them out, it's only $20 a pop for new boots. If...
I was wondering if there are any maps available that tell where it's legal to fish? I'm getting bored of the same old haunts and would like to know how to find access. I'm not looking for anyone's "secret" spots, just info on how to find new water for myself. It seems that every place I look...
