    Ausable

I make an annual trip to the WB Ausable every spring with a group of guys to fish the Hendricksons. In fact, it's been so many years that it's more of a pilgrammage now. We've fished it from above the Olympic ski jumps down to Junction Pool in Ausable Forks and have developed a number of...

    Orvis Paramus Blowout

Yesterday there were still good supplies of tippets/leaders, a few flies, lines & reels. Was told that they are expecting a shipment of reconditioned rods later this week.

    Dennis, you changed templates

Same thing happened to me. When you edit your options, the "style set" drop down was set to blue chrome, not default, so when you updated, you unknowingly changed skins. Just reset your style to default.

    Monticello Gambling

Just wait until the real casinos are open! Then you can forget about the Quickway, it'll be a parking lot 24/7.:(

    a two fer

Had that happen to me, too, Ralph, on the Mongaup a couple of years ago. Got two on a pair of swung wet flies... ...unfortunately, they were both suckers!:D

    1st Trip to the Ausable

Try Connery Pond, Holcomb Pond, Owen Pond, Winch Pond, Big & Little Cherrypatch Ponds. All are right near the West Branch and have outlets that join the river. Jones Outfitters has a map that shows all of them and includes hatch charts, too. Muddlers, black or Olive Wooly Buggers, Black...

    1st Trip to the Ausable

Clif, I'll be up there from May 9th-15th on my 6th or 7th May trip to the Ausable. Early May is extremely unpredictable up there. I've had 90+ degree days some years and others where it never broke 50 degrees in a week. Hatches are correspondingly unpredictable, but we usually get some...

My 2 cents...when I see the initials "ne", I automatically think New England, not Northeastern. Don't know whether that matters or not.

    Neversink state land

The only state land that I am aware of upstream of the reservoir is at the extreme upper end of both the East and West Branches. There you will see State Forest signs along the road. This is very small pretty water that holds a populatiopn of wild brookies. What you may be referring to is the...

I asked the same question a few months ago. See the answer here: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vbportal/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=509&highlight=beaverkill+falls

$100 million Catskills casino deal Signed

Guys, There are what appear to be a couple of points of confusion concerning the Catskill casinos. The law passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor permits a total of 6 new Indian casinos in the state - 3 in western NY and 3 in the Sullivan/Ulster area of the Catskills. There are...

    Fly Lines

Jason, Sorry to respond to a question with a question, but how do you like the Wulff lines? I've got to replace a Cortland 444 5WF and am also looking to try something else. I've also been looking at the Gary LaFontaine line in the Teeny Professional series, but haven't been able to find...

    Big Fish Report

Unregistered, Apparently, many of the guys (& gals?) that post reports on this board are well known to each other and enjoy sharing their experiences with each other when they can't meet up on the stream. As Dennis said, they name names when those names are already well-known and are less...

    Single Foot vs Snake Guides

I've heard from custom rod makers that snake guides actually shoot line better than single foot guides, but can't vouch for that personally. I do know that most Loomis factory rods come with single foot guides. They promote them as being better. So who's right? Maybe someone else here knows?

    Advice On New Rod

Andrea, There's no "better" rod than the one that you enjoy fishing with and any of the rods on your list should make you a happy fly fisher for years to come. I've fished a 9-foot 5-wt Loomis GL3 for the last 10 years on everything from tiny brook trout streams to the main stem of the...

    Catskill fly shop

I've fished the West Branch of the Ausable the same week that you were planning to go for the last five years. It is a little iffy to go then. Some years things are great and you catch the Hendricksons and some years it's still a little early and the water is still high and/or cold...

    Trout fishing in the rain

Josh, If you do head out on a day where a light drizzle turns into a rain heavy enough to suppress the hatch and raise the water levels a touch, that's the time to start stripping a streamer. Big trout that feed on forage fish have an advantage over their prey when the water starts to go a...

    tackle shops

Dennis, Good catch! I was wondering about those "unregistered" posters. On a site where almost every poster registers, they stuck out like a sore thumb!;) There's yet another unregistered flydealflies endorsement earlier in the thread and also one for Delaware River Outfitters, too...
