Post flood fishing - Common Sense please

I just returned from salvaging my cabin on the WB. If and when you wish to resume fishing please remember a few things: Water flows from the USGS website will not give you any idea what wading or floating conditions will really be like. Water in the WB is dark chocolate brown, entire...

Wading safety - Roscoe Drowning 6/3

Copied this from another site - please use common sense and caution when wading. I have heard people here endorse wading the WB at 1200+ cfs; unless you know exactly what you are doing its not worth your life. Inflatable emergency CO2 PFDs are pretty affordable and easy to wear on a belt or...

    More rain

New forecast for NE PA now looks like 1.0 - 1.8 inches possible between Friday and Saturday. With the ground wet from Thursday's dose that could push flows on the WB way up - please be careful if you are wading.

    Rain coming

Much needed rain will come to the Catskill resrvoirs and rivers this weekend - NWS predicts as much as 1 - 3 inches for the Upper Delaware region. Cannonsville still shows 100% as of yesterday; even if you don't mind fishing in the rain expect the WB to rise rapidly and become stained /...

    More flood warnings

West Branch >4000, reservoir spilling, could get up to another inch of rain tonight. Way to go NYC! I see they have 'forgotten' to update the reservoir capacity webpage since last Friday - it was already over 102% before the last big rain that pushed the WB over 5K this weekend.

    Flood Watch

Here we go again - Cannonsville is spilling and area could get 0.5 - 1.5 inches of rain tonight into Sat. Tribs likely to spill over - WB and Main Stem will rise but not flood per NOAA. All this with WB already at 1700 today before the rain.

    Warning on discount flies

Wanted to relate an experience I had this year with some bad fly hooks, maybe save you some grief. Was fishing in MI with a long time guide buddy, we were chasing Big Browns during the late June hatches of drakes / isos and Hex. Nobody gets excited about an 18" fish this time of year - 20"s...

    Major Rain Event coming

Tues Nov 29 PM: NWS calls for 2-3 inches in NJ, 1-2" in Upstate NY [Binghamton.] Add in some snowmelt and looks like we are headed into 2006 with full NYC reservoirs.

    WV experts advice

Anyone here from WV or familiar with the area? Looking to learn more about the Elkins area, fishing, etc. Any input is appreciated!

    Reservoir capacities heading into winter

Cannonsville and Pepacton have crept up noticeably in recent few weeks. What is considered a 'good' level for these heading into winter in order to minimize excesive spilling / flooding next April? Has NYC agreed to drawdowns if required prior to snowmelt? Pepacton is fuller than...

    Orvis 'Original' Battenkill Reels

I have used the Orvis Battenkill disc reels for years, own more reels/spools than I can count. They have always been flawless even on large salmon with 50-80 yard drag screaming runs. Year or two ago I thought these were discontinued and replaced with the new bar stock / mid - large arbor...

    Trop Storm Arlene = rain?

1st storm of the Atlantic season: Arlene is expected to land on Miss - Ala Gulf Coast by Sunday. If it tracks like previous storms the Catskills could see rain from storm remnants within a week. Hopefully the impact will be much needed rain and not 'blowout' flows and more flooding; reservoirs...
