short rods need a faster casting tempo thats all.
I use a 6ft rod on most days, never have a problem getting a fly to a fish.
And landing or netting is also easy er. LONG LIVE THE SHORT ROD.
There is a split right above the trestle.
There are plenty fish all threw the lower section. Most people don't fish there.
the bolder fields there make good sanctuary's.
I've seen that fail, if there is a severe mismach.
In other words, if the hook is to large for the tippet used.
that will cause the knot to fail. I've done it.

I was there saturday and saw a brown with a large spinner attached by the edipose finn. keep the spinners out of the klg. just my veiw and i'm sticking
to it.

I think you would have to qualify that question by adding for where you fish.
for me, A 7ft hollow built 4wt by glenn Bracket mated with a peerless 1.5 reel.
Most people when starting in fly fishing, may think they need every pattern, and every gadget. There are shops that prey on that for sales.
You don't need everything. Just the basics. Saves on back aches too.

most modern makers post there and yes there are 400 to 600 dollar rods.
