Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
Didn't see this here yet. I saw this on a few other sites. A good deal on inflatable jackets. I don't know much about this "shnoop," but Cabelas is selling the same jacket for $160. 6 hours left.

Lower Wanaque
The Lower Wanaque River is a "tail water" by definition. There is a constant flow from the Wanaque Reservoir as a bottom release. Even though the dam is more than a mile upstream from the area you are interested in fishing, the water down there stays fairly cool in the summer...
I agree with Flytier. Get an intermediate line. It is easier to cast than a floating line; and it is fairly versatile for most beach situations. You can use a floating line for certain situations, but in my opinion, an intermediate serves more purpose on the beach.
Jon
The Patriot is your (a)typical attractor pattern. In my experience, wild and stocked rainbows really love it for some reason. I have used it as an indicator with a nymph dropper and a lot of fish take the dry.

I think this is great idea. I know that I stop in the chat room from time to time and nobody is in there. Hopefully, this will make good use of the chat room and not be a waste of space/money on the site. Having specific topics is a great idea too. This keeps a concentration during the chat...
Dennis and I had this conversation a while ago talking about my lack of casting distance. I tried cleaning my line as he suggested and used a cortland line cleaner and I swear it made a difference. Not a huge difference, but I added approximately 8-10 feet just throwing a clean line. I guess...
Somerset Show
You might want to wait for the Somerset Show this winter and check out Charlie Collins' booth. His necks are nice. He is very helpful and will spend time with you if you have questions. Check this link out too if you haven't already.

Rob- Thanks for the info....I'll check out the barn...
Larry-
Good call...she knows all too well about the fall runs and maybe leaving the 10 wt home is a good idea THIS TIME... :D
I still haven't heard too much about the Albies. The mullet run should be starting up soon too...man, I love...
Just wondering if anyone can help me out. I will be going to Cape May next Fri-Sun (Sep 9-11). My better half claims she will let me bring a rod (nice of her isn't it?). Since I have never been fishing down there, I was wondering if anybody could give me any advice as to what to expect in the...
Larry and Rob,
Thanks for the report/s. I might be heading to the hook early sat morning. I guess it depends on the weather from the hurricane. I hope the water cleans up and stays that way....the albies should be showing up on the beaches soon... :D
Jon
I have fished this small lake for largemouth bass. There used to be HUGE panfish in there too, but not too big anymore. The state stocked channel cats in there for a while too. Never did any fly fishing in there.

C&R-
I would learn to tie caddis flies in a bunch of colors (black, brown, light brown). I personally, prefer deer hair as opposed to elk hair, but both work. I believe that in every stream/river that I have caught trout, I have done so with at least a caddis imitation. Dennis ties a great...
John-
2 years ago, I had albies busting in front of me the last week in August. This was at Sandy Hook. That was the earliest I had seen them before. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but they should start showing up soon....hopefully :)
Larry-
You fishing Shark River and Manasquan next...
Sorry-
Hey Larry,
I could NOT confirm anything I heard. I did see Capt Gene post on my club's site about bones being in and out of the surf, but nothing significant. That particular thread also mentioned spanish macks by the flume in Spring Lake.....let's hope the weather pundits are wrong and...
Just curious...
What does it take (water conditions; heat, etc) for the insect populations to be affected? Do the water conditions have more of an effect on the development of insects at an earlier stage of their life? I ask this because it seems that some people have been saying that there...
I agree with Larry Dennis-
The Teton reels are great and in the range you are looking for. I have a 10 wt regular arbor and it holds enough backing (30 lb). I just got back from Sandy Hook. We were putzing around with the fluke. I caught about a dozen right in the wash on a fluorescent yellow...
