Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
Here in the NE we've had rain almost every day for 2 weeks. The rivers are high and the fishing has been tough.
In the last week I've thrown every fly in the box and been able to bag very few fish. I've also seen very few bug action.
We were having some great dry fly action with the March...
I'm taking my family to Lincoln Maine in August.` After a little research I found that I'll be VERY close to the Penobscot river.
After a little research I've reed there is both smallies and trout fishing. I prefer to target trout, has anyone fished the Penobscot in this area?
I'm spending a weekend in July just outside of Utica. My friend tells me the West Canada Creek and Black River are close by and offer good trout fishing.
Anyone have any experience or suggestions on either of these waters?
I've been fooling around with a differnt rod lately and I've been experiencing alot of line recoil.
I've tried to slow/speed up my tempo but I doesn't seem to work. I should mention I overlined my 5 wt with 6 weight line, is this the culprit?
Was out fishing the Saranac today and fishing was great!!! Anyway, we saw a bunch of flies I didn't recognize.
Pure white body, black thorax and mottled wings and was pretty good size maybe a 12-14. Can someome help me with this mayfly?
I read a few things about the St. Regis and since it's only an hour from me so we've talked about planning a trip out that way.
Since I've never fished that area I was hoped someone could point me in the right direction. Not looking for any SECRET spots just a general section where the...
A friend of was traveling to Lake Placid and was driving through the notch along the West Branch. He said the flies were so thick along the river he had to turn on his wipers to see.
Usually June is the beginging of great fishing in that area but things seem to be ahead of schedule this year.
Finally here in northern Ny the rivers have come alive with hatches. Fished the Saranac after work yesterday and had to brush the flies (mostly Hendricksons) off my glasses so I could see to cast.
I was fishing emergers and my friend Nick was fishing dries and we were both catching fish...
Anyone seen the Hendrickson hatch yet? I'm a little farther north than most of you probably are and I haven't seen one yet.
Usually it's our first hatch of the year and the begining of some great fishing. Maybe with the warmer weather we've been having it will happen while I'm fishing...
Just got back from flyfishing in the Smokies, I ended up taking some advice from the forum and hired Ian Rutter, he was a great guide and turned us on to lots of fish.
Unfortunately we had no camera except a cellphone so no pictures to share but it's a great place to fish for native rainbows...
I'm going back to my second trip to the Salmon River for steelies, I guess you can say I'm hooked.
Last time I went by myself because all of my friends were at camp for the first day of early season. The place I stayed was decent and I met a great bunch from VT and ended up hooking up with...
I have a chance to buy a new Quorum IM6 5wt. fly rod for just $40-50. The rod is a nice looking piece and seems to have nice action.
Has anyone heard of this brand? I Googled it and did get any hits.
What a great trip!!
I came in on Friday afternoon, spent a couple of hours down below the bridge at the lower fly zone. No luck there then I moved down to the tressel pool and hooked onto a nice brown (about 4-5lbs.) just before dark.
That night I met with a group from VT and I tagged along...
I'm about to make my first trip ever to the Salmon River for steelhead fishing.
I'm not sure how I should be rigging my leader for steelhead. Straight mono, tapered leader with tippet, indicator or no indicator?
Can someone enlighten me?
I know it's late for the big salmon runs and it might be a little early for steelhead but this weekend (Oct 23) I'm taking my first trip to the salmon river.
I was going to set my rod up and throw flies for steelhead and browns anway.
Does this seem like the right approach for this time in Oct.?
I 'll be in the Smoky Mountains in May with my father and he wants to hire a guide for a fly fishing trip.
Has anyone fished in the Gatlinburg area with a guide?
I recently bought some SA ULTRA WF 5F line from Gander Mountain. I was going to put it on my main rod and put the old Cabelas Prestige line on the back-up reel.
I spent half a day fishing with this line and it seems too light to load my 5wt. rod. I decided to try it on some other 5 wt. rods...
