Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
Agreed. A 9' or 12' tapered 5X leader is the go-to leader for the Catskills. For those tougher conditions, you can always add a couple of feet of 6X and 7X tippet. You can also cut back a few feet to end up with a 4X leader. While we're at it, do you think nylon or fluoro is a better choice? How...
Hmmm...as in:
"Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide...
CMM,
Sorry the election didn't go the way you wanted, but that happens in a democracy. The result reflects both the electroral and popular vote.
As far as splitting the state goes, I'm sure you'd get downstate support; it would mean a tax reduction for most city people.
let's just hope the...
If you want to get a drift in before July, you definitely should contact the guide right away. A friend and I set up a trip several weeks ago, and the earliest we could get was a Monday in June. The good guides get booked fast. BTW, I second the Cross Current Guide Service recommendation.
One study by a grad student does not make it so. I really would like to see his data and his methodology.
And even if it were true, does that mean it's OK to pollute a river? What does NYC's Department of Environmental Protection protect? Certainly they don't preserve anything.
It's tempting, JeffK, but I think I'll want to reposition the guides to get the best result. If I do that, I don't think I'll be able to go back to a three-piece again.
Hey WBDluver! Thanks for the sites. I originally thought of using the Flash on the WBD, but a little experimenting told me I...
Thank you, Canefly and WBDluver!
You have given me the impetus to proceed with this project. I've checked the action of the upper sections, and think it will make a nice small-stream rod. (Wouldn't want to fight the winds on the West Branch of the Delaware, but think it could work on Fir...
Precisely. I believe weirdnjfly would get more feedback if this discussion were posted in the New York State Forum. The site is organized by state/river. Not trying to be a wise-ass, and not trying to offend anyone.
I think they should take the same tactic as they do with boats and reservoirs. That is, you can only use your felt wading boots on a particular stream, and you have to chain them up to a tree by the stream. They'll issue special numbers which you have to have branded into the boots to identify...
I was wondering if it would be possible to make this relatively heavy 9-ft, 3-piece rod into a usable 6-ft. small stream rod. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I would start investigating how to do this and if the effort would be worthwhile?
Thanks,
Dusty
I always thought that the Coffin fly was effective only after the Green Drakes had hatched and were returning to lay their eggs. Is it useful at other times too?
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. DONE.
Seriously, ever notice how there are "aesthetic" flies that catch anglers and practical flies that catch fish? I've never seen a Usual that would win a beauty contest, but they sure work on trout.
