I can't remember a NY opener with better fishing conditions. Air temp was around 65F plus or minus, and water temp was averaged at about 45F. I fished both my fly and tenkara rod. Most trout were caught on top with a #14 gray haystack.

I have never done it myself. It is popular in the adirondacks for the same reasons that they do it in Maine. During certain times of the year, you can catch some monster brookies trolling streamers. Or at least thats what i heard.

I have fished them a few times without any luck. Not sure what it is, but red has never done well for me. The only exception being the mickey finn.

I recently tried a couple soft hackles. I thought they would be very easy. For some reason, I am having trouble getting the hackle to look good. I mean, they will catch fish, but they are not anything to brag about. I have been tying a lot of the flies I fish with on my small streams...

Can't tell if your being sarcastic or not, but they are a version of the Ausable Wulff. Great colors for my small stream brookies.
