OTTER'S Soft Milking Egg® realistic milking egg patterns for fly tying, fly fishing, for cold water fish species, including steelhead, salmon, and trout. This site has a lot of info about eggs. They are a good choice in the fall. I saw rainbows spawning in the Pequest a few weeks ago...

Portland Met Ed Access on the Delaware?

I have to admit I haven't been doing as well as usual with the smallies this year. On the 4th I only caught one fish! and that was in the first few casts! I was going to try down river more towards Belvidere next time out. Above the Wallpack bend there was a lot of floating algae. It made...

Do Not go on the weekend. The place fills up with swimmers and picnickers.

    Shad Reports on the Delaware

They say the run is way down in numbers. I only got out once to fish for Shad and I caught the most I ever did in one trip. Down here by the gap the river is full of dead and dying Shad.

    KLG June 6, 2010

I took a bike ride on the Columbia Trail Sunday afternoon and I did see some guys fishing in that heat, everyone of them wearing waders instead of wet wading. My own personal opinion is that it was too hot to be Trout fishing unless you were taking them home to eat.

    The Lower D -- WTF??????

I saw the same thing Friday morning. :) I kept casting towards them until I saw what they were. Dying Shad, and there are a lot of them swimming around! BTW, I've been doing OK with the smallies but no double digit days yet. No Walleye yet.:crap:

    Bead Heads

All solid advice. I heard a phrase once from a fisherman, I can't remember who but I've never forgotten it: The difference between success and failure is often one split-shot! If you're not catching fish, change something.

    Shenandoah NP

If you can, it would be better to fish from the bottom of the stream rather than hike down from Skyline Drive. It can take quite a while to get to fishable water if you do hike down and when you're done you have to hike back up. That will take twice as long as it took you to get down (if...

    Fridays in NJ rant

I'm normally not off on Friday's but I was this past Friday. I had made plans for the day but did have some free time in the afternoon. I fished the South Branch above Hoffman's Crossing and caught a bunch in two hours of fishing. I didn't have the place to myself but it wasn't crowded. It's...

    Drill baby...actually nevermind

Extracting oil from deep water wells is serious business. It's hard to believe they can't come up with a better valve. One that could be shut off mechanically. Obviously the government and the oil companies didn't give enough thought to what to do in case of a catastrophic event. I know...

    NJ Opening Day 2010

For the past several years I always went out on opening day with my kids. We would meet a bunch of their friends and family's and we'd fish at Stephen's State Park. Well the kids are getting older and we just couldn't get it together this year so a few of us are meeting there today after...

    musky dam removal

That is the one negative thing I noticed. I haven't checked lately but there was a TON of sand moving down the river. It probably put a hurting on the macroinvertebrate population for a year or so. Hopefully only temporary.
